Helm is a boat logbook for owners who look after their own boats: engine hours, maintenance, trips and costs in one place.
ENGINE HOURS FROM YOUR TRIPS
Log a trip with the engine hours at start and finish, or just the hours run, and Helm keeps each boat's running total. Every maintenance item works out what is due from it.
MAINTENANCE BY HOURS OR DATE
Set each task by engine hours, by calendar, or whichever comes first. When you add a boat, Helm sets up a starter schedule for its engine type, such as oil and filter, impeller, lower unit or gear oil, zincs, battery and safety equipment. The starter intervals are general guidelines and your owner's manual has the final word: open any task to change its interval or enter when the job was last done. The dashboard shows what is coming due and what is overdue, and with notifications on, a reminder arrives a week before a calendar due date. Log each service with who did it, the engine hours, the cost and notes, and see each task's service history.
TRIP LOG
Date, departure and return times, engine hours, fuel used in gallons or liters and its cost, purpose (cruising, fishing, watersports, sailing, racing and more), passengers, departure point and destination, weather, sea state and notes. Each trip shows the price you paid per gallon or liter.
EXPENSES
Log fuel, marina or slip fees, insurance, registration, parts and labor, upgrades, cleaning, trailer, winter storage, haul-out, electronics and more, with a receipt photo, in your own currency. Open any expense to edit or delete it.
SAFETY
Run the pre-departure checklist before you leave the dock: fuel and oil, bilge pump, fire extinguisher, flares, life jackets, VHF radio on channel 16, navigation lights, float plan, weather, propeller, battery and a safety briefing for passengers. The man overboard reference, including the MAYDAY call on VHF channel 16, works offline.

Ratings & Reviews

• Every maintenance task has its own page: change its interval to match your engine manual, enter when the job was last done, and see each service you've logged. Helm's intervals are general guidelines; your owner's manual has the final word.
• Starter schedules for boats you add are corrected: 2-stroke outboards no longer get an oil change, inboards no longer get drive bellows, and gear oil on outboards and sterndrives is due every 100 hours or yearly.
• Free plan: the starter schedule no longer counts toward your 5 tasks.
• Tap an expense to see its receipt photo, edit it or delete it.
• Fuel Analytics shows the price you paid per gallon or liter and fuel cost per engine hour, and no longer adds liters to gallons. Cost per hour in Expenses now uses engine hours.
• Choose your currency and fuel unit in Profile > Units & Currency.
• Service reminders arrive a week before a dated service is due.
• Export a PDF for any of your boats, now with its service history; the CSV includes trips and services.
• Delete a boat from its page, and a crash after Delete All Data is fixed.
