Collecting butterflies and other insects for scientific purposes requires good data (time and place) with each specimen. Doing this with pen and paper is tedious and slow, and means collecting fewer specimens! Now you can take advantage of your phone's camera and GPS receiver, and simply record a photo of each specimen with the normal camera app. When you're ready to mount your specimens, you can use CheckrSpot to select the corresponding photos, add notes, and then print labels directly from the app. Even better, if you have envelopes or vials with pre-printed unique QR codes, CheckrSpot will extract the code from the photo, giving you a temporary ID for each specimen to help you get the right label on it during preparation. You can even set "multiplicity", for collecting multiple moths at a light sheet with a single container. If you use any sort of app or database for your collection, with your own identifier scheme, CheckrSpot can export a JSON file of selected specimens. It also supports copying the same JSON to the clipboard. You'll need a script or program to convert CheckrSpot JSON to whatever format your database/app consumes, but that is not hard with modern AI help.
