Social media promised connection. It gave us scrolling.
The U.S. Surgeon General now calls loneliness a public health epidemic — a mortality risk equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. Young Americans spend just 40 minutes a day with friends. In 2003, that number was 61.

• Open motive and see a small warm calendar of hangouts happening near you, hosted by real people in your city.
• Tap one that looks good. RSVP. Show up.
• Or host your own — pick an activity, a place, a time. Takes about 30 seconds.
• Chat with everyone going, coordinate the little details, then go do the thing.
