The Lede: Read Later

The article, not the headline

Free · In‑App Purchases

Save anything worth reading. The Lede reads it closely, renames it for what it actually argues, and makes the honest case before you commit. Free to try. No account. Headlines are written to be clicked. The Lede reads the article underneath and tells you what it actually argues. Save anything worth reading, from Safari or any app with a share button. It comes back renamed for the real story, filed on its beat, with a short brief that makes the strongest honest case the piece can make. Your queue reads like a magazine instead of a pile of open tabs. THE RENAME "A glass of red wine equals an hour at the gym" becomes "It was run on rats." Every save comes back named for what the piece actually argues, with the headline it ran as kept right beside it. You always see both. THE BRIEF A short, fair read of the argument: what the piece claims, what it rests on, and what it leaves out. Enough to know what you are dealing with before you commit twenty minutes to it. FILED BY BEAT Your saves shelve themselves into sections. Politics, Culture, Science, Business and the rest. Browse by mood, the way you would a magazine, instead of scrolling a list in the order things piled up. DIG DEEPER When something matters, send it to the research desk. It goes out and finds more reporting, weighs what holds up, and comes back with an honest bottom line. Then it shows you every source it looked at, so you can check its work. It works the same on a news story, a how-to, or the history thread you fell into at midnight. THE COMMONPLACE BOOK Every passage you mark, from every article you have read, collected in one place with your notes. BUILT TO BE READ Real typography, generous margins, and a dark mode made for night reading. The article you saved deserves a better page than the one it ran on. NO ACCOUNT There is nothing to sign up for and no password to make. Your library lives in your own iCloud and syncs across your devices. MEMBERSHIP Membership is one subscription, billed monthly or yearly. The desk reads it all, and you get 150 Dig Deepers a month. Both start with a 7-day free trial. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period and price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase. • This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.

The desk asks to send notifications the first time you Dig Deeper, and it says why before it asks. Nothing on launch. When the desk reaches a page but can't pull the text out, it says so and tells you what to do next. Deleting a highlight asks first. The passage and its note are gone for good, so the app checks you meant it. Restore purchases tells you what it found. Fixes at the largest text sizes, and one name for each thing throughout the app.
