SAFE Budgeting

Private, on-device budgeting

Free · In‑App Purchases

SAFE Budget is the personal finance app where your money stays with you. Your ledger lives in its protected local storage and your private or explicitly shared iCloud. SAFE Budget operates no financial-data server. WHY SAFE IS DIFFERENT PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE SAFE Budget has no account system and no hosted ledger backend. Synced ledger values use CloudKit encrypted fields and attachments use CloudKit assets. Apple documents that these fields and assets are end-to-end encrypted when Advanced Data Protection is enabled; otherwise they remain encrypted in transit and on Apple's servers under standard iCloud protection. Your device authentication protects access to the app's local copy. PRIVATE PROCESSING, USER-CONTROLLED SYNC - Apple Wallet: link your Apple Card, Apple Cash, and Apple Card Savings through Apple's FinanceKit. This data is read from Wallet on your device, stored in the same protected ledger, and never sent to the developer. It's optional, off until you enable it, and revocable anytime in Settings. - Bank sync via SimpleFIN, or bring your own Plaid developer keys. Credentials stay in your Keychain and sync only through Apple's end-to-end-encrypted iCloud Keychain to your own trusted devices. SimpleFIN and Plaid are independent services you authorize directly — SAFE is not affiliated with them and operates no server that could ever see your data. - Smart transaction categorization that runs locally - Receipt OCR with Apple's Vision framework runs on-device; photos you choose to keep sync as CloudKit assets in your iCloud SimpleFIN and Plaid process bank data under their own privacy policies when you enable them. RECEIPTS, WARRANTIES & ITEM-LEVEL SPLITS Snap a receipt and let on-device OCR read it. Split a purchase line by line into its own categories. Track warranties and get a heads-up before coverage ends. PLANNING THAT GOES BEYOND BUDGETING - Loans & debt payoff (avalanche vs. snowball) - Mortgage analytics — equity, LTV, PMI, payoff dates, affordability - Tax projection — brackets, FICA, withholding adequacy - Retirement & 401(k) projections with employer match - Savings goals with a required-contribution solver - Home project budgets FORECASTING & CASH-FLOW MODELING See a day-by-day running balance built from your real pay dates and bills, with a cash-flow-cliff warning. Drag a what-if slider to test any decision. Project net worth 30+ years out with conservative, expected and optimistic bands, inflation-adjusted. PROACTIVE INSIGHTS & REPORTS Low-balance, overspend, credit-utilization, subscription-creep, duplicate-charge, and warranty-expiry insights — plus a reports gallery (spending, income vs. expense, net-worth trend, cash flow, money-flow Sankey, year-in-review) and a custom report builder. HOUSEHOLD SHARING Invite a partner through Apple's CloudKit sharing. Owner, editor and guest permissions control access; the owner can remove a participant, and each device attributes changes to the profile that person selected. Settle-Up keeps shared expenses fair. NATIVE ACROSS YOUR APPLE DEVICES Built in SwiftUI for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Home-screen and lock-screen widgets, a glanceable Watch app, Siri ("What's left this month?"), Control Center quick-add, and Mac/iPad keyboard shortcuts. Widgets redact automatically when your device is locked. NO ADS. NO DATA SELLING. NO TRACKING. No advertising, no advisory commission, and no developer-operated ledger server. Your devices, your iCloud, your control. PRICING Free to download. Reading and exporting your data always work without paying. Creating and editing needs SAFE Budget Plus — $9.99/year, first month free, or $29.99 once for lifetime. Family Sharing supported. SimpleFIN accounts that stopped updating, and the advice that couldn't be followed. A MERGE LEFTOVER STOPPED THE WHOLE CONNECTION If you had merged two accounts from the same bank connection and a copy of the merged-away one later reappeared, SAFE Budget found two saved accounts claiming one bank identity. It refused to guess between them — right — and then refused to update every other account on that connection too, for as long as the copy existed. The message said "membership could not be verified" and named nothing, and its advice ("sync once, then merge") was a loop: the sync refused because of the copy, and the merge refused the copy because no sync had recorded its identity. Now one disputed identity is skipped and named, and every other account on the connection updates as normal. The sync note and Data Health say exactly which two accounts are involved, when the copy appeared, that it is frozen and double-counts in Net Worth, and the two actions that end it: merge the copy into the account that owns the identity, or delete it. That merge is now accepted. Nothing is changed for you; the choice stays yours. The copy itself can no longer come back: an identity that a merge moved onto a surviving account routes to that account from every device, whatever the connection's warnings say. APPLE WALLET KEEPS WHAT IT HELD BACK When an import holds an account back — because two saved accounts claim it, or because the account it belongs to has not reached this device yet — Apple Wallet used to move its bookmark past the held changes anyway, and they were never delivered again. The bookmark now stays put for exactly the accounts that were held, and everything else advances as before. DELETED ACCOUNTS STAY DELETED, AND SAY SO If you deleted a synced account and the bank keeps sending it, SAFE Budget kept it deleted but never mentioned it, and counted it among the accounts it had updated. It still stays deleted; the sync note now says so, and the count reflects only what was actually updated. A BRIDGE THAT ANSWERS SLOWLY SimpleFIN gathers your accounts from each institution live and answers only when the slowest has replied. The app used to give up after sixty seconds of silence; it now waits up to four minutes for that one request. Your budget stays on your devices and in your private iCloud. No servers, no tracking, no analytics.
