Photos selected from your library now import more like scans. When a document is clearly detected, PrivateScan straightens and crops the imported copy to improve text recognition for search and automatic naming. Your source photo is not changed. Automatic naming requires the one-time Premium unlock. Your appearance, default export format, default scan filter, and list or grid view can now sync through your iCloud on each device where iCloud Sync is enabled.

The upgrade screen now shows custom watermarking, and Excel export where available. Large documents load nearby pages first, with more loading as you swipe. Search updates after a brief pause while you type. Clearer messages when an export cannot finish, and clearer VoiceOver feedback for rows and buttons in the Documents and Folders screens.

See an estimated file size before you export. The export sheet estimates how large your PDF will be for Actual Size, Smaller, and Smallest, so you can compare presets before you share. Plus small fixes and polish.

Scan a table into a real Excel spreadsheet. Choose XLSX in the export sheet and PrivateScan finds the tables on your device and builds a real .xlsx file with rows, columns, and numbers you can edit. Other scanner apps build spreadsheets on their servers. PrivateScan never does: nothing is uploaded, ever. Table detection is careful, not magic. Check the numbers before you rely on them. Pages without a clear table export as plain text instead. Excel export requires iOS 26.

PrivateScan is now a full native iPad app. Your whole library fills the screen as a grid of document cards, every orientation works, and iPad multitasking is supported. On iPhone, nothing changes. Also in 1.5: small fixes and performance improvements.

Turn any scan into a Word document. Choose DOCX in the export sheet and PrivateScan builds a real .docx file entirely on your phone. Other scanner apps build Word files on their servers. PrivateScan never does. Cleaner scans, too. The Enhanced filter now removes shadows and uneven lighting and whitens the page background, and Black and White produces crisp, pure black and white pages even from poorly lit captures. Also in 1.4: - Face ID now unlocks the app automatically when you open it. - Your work survives the lock screen: edits, exports, and markup continue exactly where you left off after unlocking. - Imported files now get AI smart naming, just like camera scans. - Imports report exactly what succeeded when a page cannot be read. - Many reliability fixes across export, import, purchases, and sync.

Freeform markup is here: draw, highlight, and erase on any page with a pen, highlighter, and eraser in four ink colors. Your ink bakes into the page, so it shows up in every export and share.
