Shortwave Radio & SWL Guide

Free

DXLens is a shortwave listening companion designed to help listeners explore broadcast schedules, understand reception conditions, and access compatible public SDR receivers. Key features: • Shortwave schedules compiled from multiple established sources • On Air views for broadcasts scheduled at the current time • Search and filtering by station, frequency, language, band, target area, and source • Interactive maps, station details, and transmitter information • Reception forecasts, modeled path reliability, and propagation context • Access to compatible public KiwiSDR receivers • Support for compatible personal rtl_tcp receivers • Favorites, saved receivers, alerts, and a reception logbook • Home Screen widgets • Optional iCloud synchronization for supported user data • Manual location selection when location access is not granted All features in this release are available without a subscription or in-app purchase. No account or sign-in is required. DXLens provides schedule-based guidance and transparent reception information. It does not claim to measure live signal strength unless data is obtained from an actual receiver. Some features require an internet connection. Public SDR availability depends on third-party receiver operators and network conditions. What’s New in Version 1.5.0 This is a major DXLens update focused on startup reliability, faster schedule access, better source transparency, expanded propagation context, stronger reception logging, and a more consistent listening workflow. • More reliable startup and database handling: DXLens now uses a verified, persistent installed broadcast database with safer activation, integrity checks, recovery paths, and selective on-demand loading. Startup work has been reduced and deferred so the app can become usable sooner without repeatedly rebuilding or decoding the full schedule database. • Schedule Changes: the “What Changed” view highlights meaningful added, removed, and modified broadcasts. Optional notifications can be limited to major/seasonal changes, all meaningful changes, or disabled. • Faster Search and On Air: Search, filters, counts, Jump to Band, source tabs, and pagination now query the installed database directly and hydrate only the records needed. Search All preserves the individual EiBi, Aoki/NDXC, and HFCC source records rather than cross-source merging them. • Better source reconciliation: stronger station, recurrence, transmitter, language, and technical-data safeguards reduce false merges while preserving original source evidence. Source Agreement now distinguishes schedule agreement from technical corroboration, and Original Source Records remain available when sources differ. • Improved Forecast and Home performance: repeated calculations, decoding, and duplicate query work have been reduced. Forecast work is demand-driven, Home map data becomes available sooner, and Search/Forecast state is preserved more reliably across navigation and short background transitions. • Expanded Ionosphere & Space Weather tools: improved Now, 72 h, 30 d, Events, Solar, and Polar views; clearer event timelines; recent solar-driver context; canonical event details; solar imagery evidence and two-source comparison; and polar/greyline evidence for supported paths. • Reception Opportunity Watches: create a watch from Broadcast Details and evaluate whether reception conditions improve, with clearer evidence, audit context, and iCloud-synced watch definitions. • Better notifications and Reception Criteria: blocked stations are respected throughout notification reconciliation, language criteria are more accurate, and alert repair/testing tools are clearer. • Reception Logbook improvements: saved station/frequency details open independently of current On Air filters, with cleaner Device/iCloud presentation, clearer reception evaluation guidance, better country/site handling, and local plus UTC reception-time documentation. • Reception Journal PDF export: create a publication-quality PDF from all saved receptions or a selected local-date range. Add optional journal and listener details, keep the existing reception cards in their familiar design, optionally include path maps and precise receiver coordinates, and include richer historical detail about the station, listening setup, evaluation, notes, and saved propagation context. Exports can include a cover page, journal summary, detailed reception pages, and both local and UTC reception times. • Broadcast Details improvements: faster Alternatives, alternatives remain available even when the original frequency is currently inactive, clearer source/country/site presentation, and improved technical information. • UI and iPad improvements: refined navigation, clearer Space Weather/Events presentation, stronger date grouping, improved cards and loading states, better dark-mode consistency, and restored/retested iPad operation with further layout refinements. DXLens remains completely free, with no subscriptions, no ads, and no user tracking.
