Rain on a tent. A fire in the next room. Waves, wind, a night train, white and brown noise. Susurrus lets you layer them into a mix that is yours — and every sound lives on your phone, so it plays all night with no internet at all.
SOUND THAT DOESN'T REPEAT ON YOU
Most sleep apps loop a clip by starting it over, and your ear catches the join. Every loop in Susurrus is crossfaded into itself, so the end flows back into the beginning with nothing to hear. Distant thunder, an owl or a settling log drifts in at random on top, so no two nights sound the same.
MIX YOUR OWN
Layer several sounds at once, each with its own volume, all visible together without digging through menus. Name a blend you like and it is waiting on the home screen tomorrow.
A TIMER THAT FADES
Sound cut off at the end of a timer will wake a light sleeper — silence arriving suddenly is itself a noise. Susurrus eases the volume down over the last minute and a half. 15 minutes, an hour, or anything up to 23:59.
KEEPS PLAYING WITH THE SCREEN OFF
Lock your iPhone and the mix carries on, with controls on the Lock Screen.
MADE FOR A DARK ROOM
Colour themes to suit you, each in both light and dark. Full-screen photography that drifts almost imperceptibly behind the player. English and Arabic, right-to-left included.
HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS
Susurrus is free and shows ads — that is what pays for it. Ads are muted while your sounds are playing, and none of them ever interrupts audio already going. Watch one short video to turn ads off for 30 minutes.
There is no subscription. No sound is locked. No account, no sign-up.
WHAT IT DOESN'T DO
It does not track your sleep, record audio, or ask for your microphone. It collects nothing about you — your mixes and settings never leave your iPhone. It is not a medical device and does not treat insomnia or any condition.
Every sound was recorded and given away by someone under the Pixabay Content License. The Credits screen names them all.
