One walk video is enough: GangGefährte documents your dog's gait by body region, compares it with his own reference and builds a PDF for the vet visit. Free, no account.
GangGefährte analyzes your dog's gait from a simple walk video. You film your dog from the side at a normal walk — 12–180 seconds per side video, ideally around 20 usable seconds, which you can add in further clips. The app picks the best gait passages itself. Optionally you add a top-down view from your position on the leash (6–120 seconds) to capture the tail and body axis. While filming, live coaching shows whether the dog is in frame and how many usable seconds you already have.
The result is a gait report by body region — overall gait, forelimbs, hindlimbs, trunk and posture, tail — in plain sentences. The back line itself is not measured. Behind it are 2D measurements from the video:
- Step frequency and evenness of the stride cycles
- Rhythm separately for forelimbs and hindlimbs
- Symmetry of the stride motion and ground contacts per paw pair
- Head-nod and pelvic motion as documented accompanying indicators
- Trunk-angle stability, normalized against camera motion
Your first good analysis becomes your dog's reference gait. Every later analysis answers the real question: is he still moving as usual? After a veterinarian-confirmed diagnosis, rehab mode documents recovery with trend curves from the diagnosis date.
The multi-page PDF report is made for the conversation at the veterinary clinic: findings, trend, stride-cycle curves, measurements with their data basis, and an honest methods page.
Privacy is built in: videos and photos never leave your iPhone, there is no user account and no tracking. Optionally — off by default — you can consent to sending anonymous measurements only, for AI wording of the report text or to improve the app (labeled under Article 50 of the EU AI Act).
Important: GangGefährte is a documentation and tracking aid. The app does not diagnose, does not provide breed norms, and does not replace a veterinary examination. If there is pain, sudden lameness, loss of weight-bearing or other acute signs, contact a veterinary clinic directly.
