Hold Better: Video Poker
Jacks or Better Trainer
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Compare all 32 holds in 9/6 Jacks or Better and 8/5 Bonus Poker. Practice decisions, review exact expected values, and learn the math.
Learn which cards to hold in video poker, and what each choice is worth.
Choose your hold, check the strategy, and compare it with the best answer. Hold Better grades the decision itself: the practice table does not draw replacement cards or show a payout. After each hand, see which cards you kept correctly, missed, or should have discarded.
Practice five-unit 9/6 Jacks or Better and 8/5 Bonus Poker, or enter a custom paytable. Each paytable keeps its own progress. Play as many hands as you like, focus on weak spots, or take the five-hand Daily Drill.
Enter any five-card hand in the analyzer to compare all 32 possible holds. See exact expected values, tied best choices, and outcome probabilities calculated from every possible replacement combination.
Interactive lessons explain high cards, pairs, straight and flush draws, the royal-flush premium, and expected value. Review the hands you missed, replay them, and track mastery across five strategy levels. Progress shows your accuracy, expected value retained, trends, and costly mistakes.
Works offline on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with VoiceOver, larger text, dark mode, and reduced motion. No ads or account required.
Hold Better is an educational strategy trainer. No real money is staked and no wagers are placed.
