READ
Today's two passages, in the ESV or the King James. Check a passage when you have read it. If you would rather read somewhere else, the day's passages open in whatever Bible app you already use.
KEEP YOUR NOTES
Highlight a verse, or write a note with it. Your notes are yours: they hold the reference and your own words, and live on your phone. An account is optional and unlocks nothing — it exists only so a second device can have them too.
SUNDAY
The sermon notes your church hands out, in the app. On Sunday the Church screen carries that morning's notes: the passage, the blanks to fill in as the sermon goes, the application questions your group works through afterwards, the prayer list and the reading list. It saves as you write it, and every sheet you fill in is kept with your notes. A line from the prayer list becomes a prayer of your own in a tap.
PRAY
Turn a passage into a prayer, framed by four categories — Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. Set a prayer to come round again and your phone will notify you at the time you chose.
KEEP GOING
A streak that forgives a missed day and never scolds. Progress by book rather than by percentage, so you can see where you actually are. Catch up on readings you missed without pretending you read them.
ASK
A question from the reading goes to the church, and gets answered on the podcast.
AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
Name one person and they get one short text a week about how the reading went. They agree first, every message carries a link that stops it, and the note never contains a verse or a word you wrote.
NO ADVERTISING, NO TRACKING
There is no analytics, no advertising identifier, and no third-party tracker in this app. Nothing you read, write or pray is measured or sold.

Fixes, ready for the new year.
If Lamp & Light is left open overnight, it now moves on to the new day by itself. Before, it could open on New Year's morning still showing 31 December.
A reading you check off, a highlight or a deletion made while the app is syncing is no longer lost.
On iPad, Save on a prayer now works the first time, even with the formatting bar open.
Your sign-in is now kept in the iPhone's Keychain, so it stays on this device and out of backups.
1.8.1 Oct 12
The first time you open Lamp & Light, it now starts with a short introduction: what the plan is, where you are in it, and whether you would like a reminder to read. If you have been reading along in print or in another app, you can mark the days you have already read in one go, and undo it straight afterwards.
If you already use the app, nothing changes for you.
1.8 Sep 30
Ready for 2027. On New Year's Day the plan moves on to 2 Kings, with the
Psalms from the beginning again. Your progress starts the year fresh; your
notes stay exactly where they are.
Your notes on iPad now sync across devices when signed in.
In Notes, a book's highlights and notes are now grouped by chapter, on
screen and in the export.
1.7 Sep 29
Writing in the margin on an iPad has been rebuilt. The pencil now writes
with the iPad's own ink, so printed letters come out whole and the line
keeps up with your hand. Everything you had already written is still there,
on the same page beside the same passage.
A prayer can now be set aside without losing it. Under Prayed there are two
new choices: Answered, for a prayer that has been answered, and Archive, for
one that is simply done. Either way it stops coming round — no reminder and
no count on the tab — and keeps every word, its verse and the date you set
it aside.
Answered and archived prayers wait on their own shelves at the foot of the
Prayers list, and search still finds them. Keep praying this puts one back
exactly as it was.

### 1.5
Two widgets for your home screen.
Today's Reading puts the day's two passages where you will see them before
you open anything — with a check against whichever you have already read, and
the year so far as twelve bars, one for each month.
Prayer shows whatever you have asked to be reminded of, at the hour you
asked for it. When nothing is waiting it shows the prayer list your church
published on Sunday, so there is something to pray either way.
Both are drawn on the phone itself. They are right at six in the morning
with no signal and the app closed, and they change the moment you mark a
reading read or a prayer prayed.
1.5 Sep 11
Your church's sermon notes are now in the app. On Sunday the Church screen carries that morning's notes: the passage it is preached from, the blanks to fill in as the sermon goes, the application questions your group works through afterwards, the prayer list and the books at the end.
Write on it during the service. There is no Save button and nothing to remember to press — everything you type is kept as you write it.
Every sheet you fill in is kept under Sermons in Notes, beside your highlights, notes and prayers. The same search finds them, and they come out with the export.
A line from the sheet's prayer list becomes a prayer of your own in one tap, with a time for you to be reminded.
The church publishes the sheet each week, so it is there on Sunday morning without the app needing an update.

### 1.3
The episode now has a screen of its own, between the day's last reading and
the mark that finishes it. Nothing on it obliges you to listen — the button
moves on whether you played it or not — and an episode you have started keeps
playing while you carry on through the app.
Playback speed goes up to 3x, and the speeds are a list you pick from rather
than a button you tap through to reach the one you want. Whichever you choose
is now kept: it holds from one episode to the next, instead of starting again
at 1x with every new episode.
In Notes, several prayers can be selected at once and tagged, untagged or
deleted together. A tag shows whether it is on all of the prayers you have
picked or only some of them, and one tap settles it either way.
1.3 Sep 9
On iPad, the margin beside the reading can now be typed on properly: bold,
italic, underline, bulleted and numbered lists, and a choice of two faces.
Pages you have already written open exactly as you left them.
Prayers now appear under All in Notes, beside your highlights and notes, and
the search there finds them too.
A prayer's passage can be changed. Change, on the verse, swaps it for another
or takes it off altogether, and what you have written stays as it is.
An evening reminder can be turned on in Settings. It arrives only on days the
reading has not been checked off.
On iPad: a prayer opens full screen rather than a strip along the bottom, the
reminder scheduler is no longer stretched across the width of the screen, and
choosing a verse to pray lists the books you have marked rather than every
verse at once. Typing in the margin no longer closes the keyboard.
1.2 Sep 5
### 1.1
On iPad, the day's reading now opens with a notepad beside it. Write on it
with an Apple Pencil or type — ink and typing share the same page — with
three pens, a highlighter and an eraser.
What you write is filed under the passage rather than the date, so the next
time the plan comes round to that reading, what you wrote last time is one
tap away.
Margin pages are kept on the iPad they were written on. They do not yet copy
to an account the way notes and prayers do.
Also in this release, and new since 1.0 went out: Settings reads shorter, the
reading reminder says what it is rather than when it repeats, and the wheel
for setting the reminder time no longer closes itself on the first turn.
