The art of understanding wine

Free · In‑App Purchases

Learn wine with structure, develop your tasting and explore the world beyond the syllabus with dedicated preparation for WSET® Levels 1, 2 and 3. Wine, in context. OINOS is an independent platform for understanding wine - from the vineyard and cellar to the regions, people and ideas that shape what we drink. Learn how wine is made. Explore the world’s major grapes and regions. Develop your tasting. Study with purpose. And discover wine as something larger than a syllabus: a product of place, culture, history and human decisions. For those studying towards WSET® qualifications, OINOS offers structured preparation for Levels 1, 2 and 3, with lessons, maps, flashcards, Knowledge Checks and exam-style practice. For everyone else, there is simply wine. UNDERSTAND, RATHER THAN MEMORISE Why does Chablis taste different from Napa Chardonnay? What does altitude change in a vineyard? Why would a winemaker choose concrete over oak? And what, exactly, does a year of bottle age do? OINOS is built around connections. Climate, soil, grape growing, winemaking, geography and tradition are considered together - so that individual facts begin to form a picture. STUDY WITH STRUCTURE The OINOS library is organised into progressive Volumes, moving from essential principles to a more detailed study of varieties, regions, viticulture, winemaking and wine styles. For students preparing for WSET Level 1, WSET Level 2 or WSET Level 3, dedicated study tools help turn knowledge into active recall. Work through flashcards and Knowledge Checks, practise with exam-style questions, identify weaker areas and return to them. OINOS complements your formal wine education; it does not replace official course materials. KNOW WHERE YOU ARE Wine makes considerably more sense when you put it on a map. The OINOS Atlas connects appellations and regions with climate, landscape, grape varieties and wine styles - from Burgundy and Bordeaux to Barossa, Mendoza, Mosel and Marlborough. Geography stops being a list of names and becomes part of the explanation. LEARN WHAT IS IN THE GLASS Tasting is where theory becomes tangible. Develop a systematic approach to observing wine, build a precise vocabulary and record your own tasting notes. Then go further: connect acidity to climate, aromas to variety and development, structure to extraction, and style to decisions made months or years before the bottle was opened. BEYOND THE SYLLABUS There is the wine you need to know for an examination. And then there is everything that makes you want to know it in the first place. OINOS looks beyond study to the wider world of wine - its producers and places, histories and traditions, changing ideas and contemporary culture. Because passing an exam is useful. Knowing why you care is better. OINOS Wine is an artwork composed by nature and perfected through time. OINOS is an independent educational platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).
