OsmAnd is an offline world map application based on OpenStreetMap (OSM), which allows you to navigate taking into account the preferred roads and vehicle dimensions. Plan routes based on inclines and record GPX tracks without an internet connection.
OsmAnd is an open source app. We do not collect user data and you decide what data the app will have access to.

more Great app, I tried many others, but all of them either felt scammy or were lacking true offline map support and route planning to be useful. OsmAnd Maps takes a little getting used to due to a steeper learning curve, but that’s the price for having amazing features. There are a lot of negative reviews which complain about issues that are clearly related to the user’s lack of patience rather than something lacking in the app. I have been able to plan and chart all of my hiking club routes both using the phone and the Mac version of this app (which is basically the mobile version for now, just on a larger screen). There’s no price gouging. Even the basic free functionality with fully downloadable off-line maps is perfectly sufficient. Some advanced features are behind a one time payment, which was worth it for me. Subscriptions are optional - though I’m sure they are useful to people who use them all the time, I’ve not needed them since I’m just running a hiking club, not doing professional cycling, forestry, or anything of that level of commitment. Amazing map app, hope it keeps growing in use and improving in function :)

As somebody who edits and uses, OsmAnd is irreplaceable and useful. The UI is kinda complicated, but the app comes packed with features and is pretty customizable. If anything the interface just takes some getting used to, but is decent to navigate once you’ve used it for awhile. The vector maps are clean, and you can tweak the way they display a lot (hiding features like buildings is a nice touch). Map panning and zooming performance has improved on my device recently, and the issues I have with the app now are kinda nitpicks.The biggest issue I have now is that road names are sometimes not displayed, especially for smaller side streets. This can make on foot navigation annoying at times. In addition, osmand on iOS tends to display municipal road numbers for state, county, nat’l highways, but not local road names as they are posted at intersections. Oftentimes highways are tagged with both the municipal number (ex. cr 18) and a local or alternative name in the OSM, and I’d love to see this reflected in osmand.One other issue I’ve had is with the street name indicator not displaying at the top of the screen, even though street name is enabled in the configure screen menu. An app restart usually causes this to display again. this does make it difficult to figure out what road you’re on from the app when this issue occurs.Big props to the developers - this app is really useful and has helped me out a lot. A true competitor to google maps that keeps getting better over time, and is based on open data :) It’s always nice seeing the edits I’ve made show up on osmand. Keep up the good work <3

This is a nice OSM viewer with a lot of customization. You can tweak just about anything in the app including map styles and layout of the navigation screen. The downside is the app is very confusing because of all these features. And it seems to be missing some basic ones. For example you can only quickly show the POIs in some category, eg “fast food” or “restaurants.” If you want to search them by name, for example if you want to search the nearest McDonald’s, it sometimes takes a minute to show the results even though I only have one map loaded. Another problem in general is the app is not very reliable. Today I was setting up my new iPad Pro and couldn’t download maps. It seems like the download needs to start over if it fails in the middle. And I’m not sure why it’s failing - my connection is gigabit and quite reliable for everything else. I also believe the app is not quitting in the background. I paid for the subscription to get hourly map update. This is pretty nice too. It auto updates any offline maps you have and it seems very data efficient.
