Great app, with a killer feature that is overlooked
out180
As a new rider my significant other is of course concerned. I tried all the Motorcycle routing and tracking apps, and none of them had this one killer feature that I’m not sure stands out enough. Safety SMS. Yep, you configure your safety contact and start a ride in the app, they get a text message with a link to your live location. You finish a ride in the app, they get a text message that you arrived at your destination. That feature is amazing. There are other apps out there that you can share your location with, but none I found that auto-trigger an SMS message with a link at the start of a ride, and another SMS message when you are finished. That right there will keep me on Rever. There’s some things I think they could do to make the app even better though. Speed overlay on the map is one. Right now you have to drop down a panel to see your speed. Would be great to see it as an overlay on the map itself (think Waze). Different color schemes other than that Orange and Black (minor but pretty is everything these days). Lean angles would be cool. Also, a curvy / ultra-curvy route planner (hint, there’s a competitor with it) would be sweet as well. None of the above pushes me away from the product, and it shouldn’t cause you to look elsewhere either. Roadmap of the product though could grow a great app into an amazing one.

Thank you for your great review and kind feedback! We are pleased to hear that you are enjoying the Safety SMS feature. We are working on some of the features you mentioned! For curvy, we have Butler Maps which are roads based on scenery and twisty which is way more valuable when planning a ride. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at support@rever.co
Rever Rides
CAP10'Z
When it comes to be able to jump on a bike look up shared rides that you want to tackle OR make your own route the Rever is one of the best apps out there. I have been riding off and on road for over 50 years and once I tried the free Rever app I was hooked. I recorded quite a few of my rides in order to get back to the cool things I had found on the rides later. Then I signed up to try the Pro version of Rever and absolutely enjoy being able to make road and back country rides to share. You can make tracks, add waypoints, POIs, and the always great turn by turn line to follow. *The notification to family/friends that you are taking off on a ride, they can track you in real time for safety and let’s them know when you are home or your destination. I ride solo a lot and having someone know where and when my ride has taken me. They can see where I am in real time and share that with EMS/Rescue or need for a tow truck for repairs. For the money it is very had to beat thing function. There are other apps that do nearly the same but I really like the simplicity of Rever. The Pro version is really a super upgrade in all areas at a very affordable price. Thanks Rever!

Pros and cons

REVER has some major applications especially for Men and Woman with a Spouse and or kids. The live ride feature I find to be a highly valuable tool. Enough to justify a subscription in my opinion. After using the app for a few rides now I’ve noticed a couple things. The layout of the app is a tad difficult to navigate at first but doesn’t take long to get used to. Tracking rides is cool but I’ve found this to be best if you have REVER running in the background while using your regular maps. My biggest complaint about the app is that unless you know the area your riding in, and you use the plan ride feature and select the “twisty” route, there is a likelihood it will take you on dirt or gravel roads, not the best if your riding sport or sport touring and is best suited for adventure bikes, dual sport/enduros and supermotos in my opinion unless your comfortable with taking a Ducati V4 or something down some gravel roads. In addition, I’ve found the “follow route line” feature to be irritating if you accidentally miss a turn off. The GPS will re route and take you off of your planned route path causing you to have to back out of the gps and click “Ride It!” On your planned route again and skip ahead in your waypoints for the GPS to map out your original line again from where you’re at. Somewhat confusing unless you try it and experience it. This is why I believe REVER is best to be used in the background unless your riding a bike that is ready to tackle anything. If it wasn’t for live ride though I’d probably cancel my subscription unfortunately.

Okay But Not Written For iPad

I’ve been using Rever over five seasons: Rever gets my limited recommendation. Pros: Multi waypoint route planning, saving routes, social network, Butler Maps included in Pro, all while being not too expensive per month. Cons: YAS (Yet Another Subscription) for pro features. Route planning on an iPad is supported like a big iPhone (universal support) and it really is a poor experience. Crashes and loses ride data too often in my experience. Routing: among the better ride routing options I have used; and I’ve used a fair number of ride mapping apps. This is the best feature for me EXCEPT routing is practically limited to iPhone or a browser based web app. I usually use an iPad Mini when on multi-day rides and the experience is so bad I usually turn to another app for route planning. Cost: The free level gives a good GPS routing tool that saves rides but you do not get Butler Maps without a subscription.Stability: I often use other routing apps and only use Rever for the social/route sharing feature. Doing this, I’ve found the app crashed while in the background often and my ride data lost or incomplete. It has gotten better on some revisions, and reverted to this behavior on others. Social: The social aspect is pretty barebones and limited. I’m positive I’ve lost more than 1,000 miles to this app crashing over the past five years; more than 300 on just one trip! So leaderboards on their social platform likely do not reflect true mileage. Also, the social platform doesn’t allow easy broadcast communications between group members which makes arranging group rides tough within the app.
