Compatible dash cams: Nexar Classic is the operational app of Nexar's WiFi dash cams: Nexar Beam, Nexar Pro, and other compatible models.
For nexarOne and beam2 LTE dash cams, look for the Nexar Connect app.
Nexar is not just any typical dash cam app. When paired with a Nexar dash cam and an active Nexar subscription, it transforms into your car's safety hub. Videos are streamed to the app, and significant events, such as hard braking and accidents, are automatically detected using an advanced AI algorithm. These events are immediately saved to your phone and backed up to your private, unlimited cloud storage, allowing you to access evidence whenever needed.

FEATURES
Records as you drive
When paired to a compatible camera, Nexar starts recording automatically, whenever you start driving, and streams video to the app. The app works in the background, so you can use other apps while driving.
Detects dangerous incidents
Nexar uses AI algorithms and sensors to automatically capture dangerous incidents like hard brakes, sharp turns, and harsh accelerations.
Protects your car even when parked
Nexar senses impact and starts recording, even when your car is parked. Watch parking incidents when your phone connects to your dash cam.
Provides instant evidence
In case of an accident, the footage is automatically displayed on the Nexar app, and can also be accessed directly from the dash cam’s SD card.
Backs up to the cloud
All driving incidents and clips that you are creating are automatically uploaded to your private unlimited Nexar cloud account.
View & share your videos
After every drive, you'll be able to see its summary, including the route and any incident clips that were recorded. Share these clips and other data with friends, family, or your insurance provider, directly through the app.

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Nexar saves what matters most. Your drives are saved to your phone based on available space. Dangerous incidents are automatically uploaded to your Nexar cloud, where they are never erased.
Nexar lets you control how much storage the app uses.
The dash cam connects to the app using its own WiFi signal. You'll still be able to use your data plan.
Nexar won't drain your data plan. The app uses data only after an incident was detected, to back up important evidence to your Nexar cloud account.
You own your data. We never share any individual's data unless they authorize it.

I really do enjoy my Nexar products. The cameras I have are feature rich and the app is very easy to use. My biggest issue is that the app drains and burns up my battery. Literally. I drive 25-30 minutes each way to work. I always have my phone plugged in for CarPlay and to charge my battery. I have the Nexar app setup so that it automatically records as I drive and streams the camera data to my phone. First off, doing this places such a power demand that my charger can’t keep up. I actually lose 2%-4% off my battery every commute while it’s plugged in. Secondly, and more concerning, is that my battery (and the phone) gets very hot to the touch. So much so that my phone will occasionally discontinue charging because of the internal temperature. I get a warning on my phone saying that charging can only continue once the device cools. I have experimented and I know that the data streaming feature in the Nexar app is to blame for this but I don’t feel like there is anything I can do to fix it. My choices appear to be to either deal with the temperature issue or turn off the data stream.. which completely defeats the purpose of having the app installed in the first place. Also, just to clarify, by “data streaming”, I am not watching the camera feed on my phone while driving. I mean the feed that simultaneously writes to the data card and my phone app in the background. My screen is off the whole time. Anyways.. I feel like this is doing damage to my phone because of the internal temperatures but I continue to look for a work around.

Thank you for these great insights! We appreciate you clarifying the "data streaming" part. The app can use a significant amount of battery since it uses WIFI, Bluetooth, and Location settings on your phone while recording in the background, but it should not discharge your phone battery like that, although if other apps are also open while driving, they may also be a contributor to this. In any case, we suggest toggling on the phone battery optimization option from the Nexar app > More > Dash cam, and turn on Motion & Fitness from the iPhone settings. If the issue persists, please send us a message with a screenshot of these settings as well as the app's battery consumption so we can look into it.
Great when camera connects

I’ve had the Nexar dash camera now for about 6 months. It’s great when it works. The camera records and transmits the video your phone. There’s even a feature that allows it to back up to cloud storage for free. The primary issue we’ve been having is that even with the auto-record feature, the feature that automatically starts the camera recording when you start your car, works about 25% of the time. Not great odds if you think you’re recording and get into an accident and find you have zero footage. It really is hot or miss. Seems to be an issue with the camera over time. Bought this Nexar dash cam for my wife’s car as well as my car and we both have iPhone 12 Pros. She experiences the same issue. I guess if you’re willing to to manually turn on the camera with your phone every time you start a drive this could work, but you might be better off with a cheap $30-$40 dash cam recording on an SD card that will automatically start recording when you start your car. At this price point $125-$130 for this Nexar dash cam, the spotty reliability in terms of recording when you start your car is a major disappointment. Last thing you want is to go days or weeks thinking your camera has been recording your drives and then come to find out you have a fraction of what you expect. I can deal with the camera not starting to record 30 seconds to 5 minutes after you start your car, but to miss trips in their entirety every 3-4 trips is inexcusable.

Let's get you back on track. If ever you're having a hard time recording your trips automatically, please ensure to isolate the use of VPNs, hotspots, wireless CarPlay, etc., and dedicate your phone's Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth to the app/dashcam. In addition to this, make sure that you're also letting the app run in the background so that the auto-record function can be triggered properly. Should you still experience the same issue despite having the correct setup, don't hesitate to contact our team via the in-app chat or at support@getnexar.com, so they can help you further regarding this. 2 1/2 years ago my wife was struck in her drivers door while attempting a left hand turn. She was leaving an entryway for a McDonald’s onto a 2 lane road with a center turn lane. Since it was a red light at the corner, a car stopped to let her out. As she was competing her turn another car went into the turn lane to go around the stopped car and struck my wife. My wife was held liable because it was “he said, she said”. After that accident I bought Nexar dash cams for both our cars. Recently I was attempting a left turn. As I was entering the intersection the light turned yellow. Before I could complete my turn I was struck on my drivers side by an oncoming car. I was found at fault for not yielding to oncoming traffic. After I was able to, I checked my footage since I couldn’t remember the details of the crash. My video showed the other vehicle enter the intersection on red, not yellow. I also pointed out the fact that the drivers headlights never dipped which happens when there is a sudden deceleration. Just something to look for. The driver later admitted that he was accelerating to beat the light. Because of my dash cam footage the other driver was found 100% liable. Thank you Nexar for a quality product that saved me thousands of dollars.
iPhone 12 Pro Max overheats when using app

I’ll start by saying the cameras are great. They have always had really good clarity. But every time I go to check trips, I have one or two problems. Either on the partial of my ride was recorded or none at all. And I always have to keep my phone in front of the AC. If not, it becomes so hot to the touch it can burn my fingers. Even if I’m just using the app and nowhere close to being next to my car my phone continues to heat up if I’m doing a video. I’m tired of partial records of rides. I’m tired of my phone heating up so much. I’ve done both making sure that all the settings are correct for capturing my rights when I did any destination. I’ve closed all tabs. I’ve even just to test have turned off all other apps that run in the background. This app still heats my phone up. And I bought two of these cameras. It happens on my phone and his as well so it’s nothing we are doing. It’s the app it’s the app it’s the app.!! I know it’s updated to the current software. I’ve tried reaching out before. To ask about the partial records. Just check your settings. Make sure your Wi-Fi is on. Blah blah blah. I know everything’s working. I can take a 45 minute drive and it will show I left my but we’re only record 35 minutes of my drive. I don’t know if anybody else has had better luck or if anybody else’s phone has it up! Any solutions? If not, I may have to look elsewhere for a camera! Partial drives and Phone heating is not gonna cut it for me!
Developer Response
To ensure that the app/dashcam can completely record your trips, you may want to isolate the usual causes of interferences such as VPNs, Hotpots, wireless CarPlay, etc. These things can hinder connection and may abruptly end your recordings. On the other hand, if it helps, try enabling the phone Battery Optimization from the app settings to alleviate high consumption. These usually cause overheating, so to help minimize usage especially when you're not driving, we suggest turning this ON. If you need further help regarding these concerns, please get back to our team via the in-app chat or at support@getnexar.com, so they can further look into it. Nexar
