your phone transcribes the episode, opencast skips the ad breaks, free. no account, no tracking, open source. transcripts, search, and chapters when you want them.
opencast finds the ad breaks in your podcasts and skips them.
It is also yours. There is no opencast account, no tracking SDK, and no ads of our own. Subscriptions and listening progress sync through your private iCloud, any RSS feed works, and the source code is MIT-licensed on GitHub.
Transcripts are made on your device with Apple Speech or Whisper. Follow along as the episode plays and tap any line to jump there. Search everything said in the episodes you've transcribed. Generate chapters and a summary for any transcribed episode. Voice Boost is a broadcast-style leveler for quiet hosts and loud rooms.
~how ad skipping works~
Tap Detect Ads on an episode, or turn on automatic detection for a show, and your phone transcribes it. opencast checks the transcript for promo and sponsor reads and marks every break on the timeline and in the transcript. High-confidence breaks skip automatically. Borderline sponsor reads are marked but never skipped, so you decide. Queue a batch, keep listening, and get one notification when detection finishes. Detection works from the transcript text, not the audio.
~what the app can do for you~
• Skips ad breaks automatically, with one-tap undo
• Transcripts on device, with tap-to-seek and follow-along highlighting
• Full-text search across titles, notes, and transcripts in your library
• Generated chapters and summaries for episodes with a transcript
• Voice Boost, speed, sleep timer, AirPlay, and Up Next
• Per-show intro and outro skip
• CarPlay and Siri integration
• New-episode notifications with no promotions inside
• Search the podcast directory or subscribe by RSS URL
• OPML import and export
• Downloads for offline listening
• Private iCloud sync for subscriptions and progress
• Native SwiftUI for iOS 27, on iPhone and iPad
~optional and paid~
On-device transcription and ad skipping are free. Remote Transcription, cloud ad detection, and Chapters & Summary are optional and use transcription hours: the first hour is free, then 20 hours for $0.99 or 100 hours for $4.99, in the US. Remote Transcription and cloud ad detection process episode audio only for the jobs you request. Chapters & Summary sends transcript text, never audio. You see the estimate before a Remote Transcription or Chapters & Summary job starts. Remote transcription and summaries are offered at-cost.

Your listening is not a growth funnel.
Works well, with ad detection working pretty flawlessly. There is still too much micro managing required to use the app. - There doesn’t appear to be a way to automatically download new episodes- the “automatically detect ads” option appears to only be if you start playing an episode, rendering ad detection useless if there are ads at the start of the episode. So you end up manually starting ad detection for everything anyway.I understand there may be technical reasons why ad detection can’t fully be automatic, especially when the app is not active. But ad detection should be started on all new episodes whenever the app is launched.
Wonderful!

I’m really enjoying using your app. I appreciate that this is an open source app. Not to mention, this app is speedy and easy to use. Thank you for all of your hard work!

fixed in 2026.9.1. for future bugs, opening an issue on GitHub or emailing me is much more useful and gives me a chance to actually fix it...
opencast 2026.10.2 lets a show download its new episodes on its own and keep only the latest few, shows the chapters built into an episode's audio, and lets a smart playlist put your favorite shows first.
• download new episodes: turn it on for a show and its newest episode downloads by itself, on wi-fi unless you say otherwise. keep downloaded trims a show to its latest 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 episodes and never touches the one that's playing
• a new storage screen in downloads shows which shows are using your space, group by show keeps the list tidy, and download settings puts every download option in one place
• chapters built into the audio file appear on the episode page and in now playing, with previous and next buttons, a chapter list, and marks on the progress bar. thanks to @gonzaloflirt
• smart playlists can put chosen shows first: pick them in the new priority rule and drag to set the order
• sleep timer presets now start at 5 and 10 minutes, and you can change all six to whatever you like
• requeue interrupted episode in settings > playback puts the episode you were listening to back at the head of up next when you start another. off unless you turn it on
• in the inbox's group by podcast view, touch and hold a show to play its latest, play all next or last, mark all played, or refresh
• settings > look & feel gathers appearance, app icon and badges. the tab bar no longer shrinks as you scroll; turn that back on there if you miss it
• now playing opens faster from the mini player
• fixes: downloads from hosts whose links have no file extension now play and are repaired on launch, lock screen artwork stays sharp, and a failed ad detection says so and offers a retry
thanks to @gonzaloflirt for the code, and to @buzzo10000 and @ncbeebs for the requests in this release.
