Description

This application provides batch conversion of RAW video files, from ProRes RAW format into a CinemaDNG reel including audio and timecode.

The output compression method can be selected between an uncompressed 16-bit format and a lossy compression of various compression levels.

Check out the app for free with a limited conversion of 300 frames per clip, an in-app purchase enables conversion of full length for a specific supported camera model.

Does what it says!

I used it to convert a drone shot I recieved on a shoot. Also tried some sample footage. Only 300frames of sample footage, as it requires another purchace,

I wish there was an option of 1 purchase of all supported cameras, so there isn't one for each one you come along with, Especially for DIT's, or loaders that have to pay for each one, and may not have internet in the field.

Great start, but needs improvement

The compression setting are all too low until you get to 3:1, which ends up being 10% larger files than the original, but still with percievable loss. Lossless is the next step, but is 3x the size of the original.

Aprart from that there is no accounting for the color space of the original camera color/gamma. So once converted, it ends up far from Slog or C-Log, etc and the LUTs that you may like to use for those color spaces no longer function as intended, making matching other cameras far more difficult.

That said, this app has promise to bring much-needed Resolve compatibility to ProresRAW, so I'd love to see support for color space conversion/retention and better compression performance.

Could you please share a sample footage which has this perceivable loss for our testing?

The color space to which the RAW footage is developed depends solely on the developing application, which is Resolve in your case. As of today, they do not give you a free choice to develop to your desired gamut/log combination - but you can always go through a temporary primary format (P3/Linear or similar lossless combination), apply a CST node to a vendor specific gamut/log and then continue with your LUT based workflow that expects such specific gamut/log on its input.

Resolve has only an undocumented feature to allow selection of developing to V-gamut/V-log when it detect a cDNG file from a Panasonic camera. They have not implemented such detection for other camera models or vendors.

From the technical perspective, we retain the original sensor raw gamut, which does even differ among models of same vendor - and only later are they developed to an unified vendor specific gamut.

Works but

I've had the app for a few months now and although it works I'm concerned about the permissions it seems to take hold of during and after processing a pro res raw file to CDNG. After processing the files I seem to lose permission to delete the files from my external hard drives. The first time this happened I attempted to format the drive on both my Mac & PC but both didn't have permissions to format the drive so I was forced to purchase a new ED. Somehow during converting the software gains permission of the drive and in a way holds in hostage. I'd love to know why this is or if I can do something to change that.

Developer Response ,

Our application does not have the capability to adjust drive permissions and there is no such thing as a formatting prevention permission. Based on the symptoms you have described the external drive was likely not handled properly - you always need to use a safe removal / eject functionality of the OS prior to disconnecting an external drive. Failing to do so the filesystem on the external drive may become corrupted. A corrupted filesystem is then often connected only with read-only access to prevent further damage and this also brings the inability to delete files. The process of formatting a drive requires escalated/admin privileges, which your user account may not possess. Anyway, the option to repair the filesystem should have been your first choice.
