Just do it

This is one of the first Japanese learning games that I find myself actually WANTING to stay with. The learning aspect feels very smooth, and I adore the fact that it doesn’t bring in romanji as its starting learner of the Japanese alphabet/vocab like so many other apps do, and instead balances moving in Japanese as you progress through the game and lessons the amount of English that is used in conversation. That I feel like is truly learning by immersing yourself into the language. It’s a cute game that has a feeling almost similar to Pokémon where you battle by learning more Japanese, collect Kanji in your Kanjidex, and travel all across the lands of Japan. It’s really neat that it makes itself unique by having the world exploration mimicking the actual locations of Japan through the game play and allows its players to take note of those real locations and maybe even pique further curiosity and excitement into wanting to travel to Japan to visit those exact locations. Keep going developers and all those who have brought this creation to life! Ya’ll are doing amazing!!

Best place to start

I’ve tried many different resources for learning Japanese, but none of them helped me progress as well as this game. The unique way they merges language learning and immersive gameplay has greatly boosted my retention rate compared to many other methods. What I love is how you’re encouraged to immediately apply what you learn by interacting with NPCs. And as you progress through the adventure, the game gradually introduces more Japanese, replacing English to match your growing skills. For just five dollars, it’s a steal and offers much more than some paid places for learning. Don’t hold back if you’re thinking about it, go for it! Thank you, devs for an amazing learning tool and best of luck on the future updates !

Immersive and impressive

This is the only “japanese learning game” i’ve ever played that:
1. feels like an actual game
2. feels like you’re actually learning and improving in an effective way

Wagotabi teaches you along the way, and as you’re introduced to more words and grammar points, they start appearing in the conversations and tasks in the game. The amount of repetition via slightly different contexts, and relevancy (what you read or hear informs what you do next as the game character), makes it feel easier to remember and digest new information. As you play, it increasingly feels like you really are playing a game IN JAPANESE, and that feeling is wildly exciting.

I honestly cannot wait until they release more content for this game.

Developer Response ,

Thanks a lot for your review! We are really glad that you like our game.
We put a lot of effort to make the game as immersive as possible, to make people feel they are learning Japanese as if they were in Japan. We are updating the game regularly, adding new content and improving the game based on feedbacks.
