AnSo is a convenient resource designed to help anaesthetists identify common sonoanatomy, in a time efficient manner, within the busy operating theatre. It has been created by practicing anaesthetists with an interest in teaching ultrasound and regional anaesthesia.
Please note that a subscription is required to access all content for this app. You can purchase a monthly or yearly subscription after signing in.
AnSo:
- provides multiple examples of the sonoanatomy as every individual is different,
- provides landmark sketches useful for developing pattern recognition of landmark structures, and for trainees to draw in exams,
- displays the cutaneous, motor, osseous and visceral innervation of the numerous nerve blocks and fascial plane blocks now available, facilitating appropriate block choice and knowledge of expected results,
- allows combining and comparing block innervation,
- allows images to be flipped to display both L and R sided orientation,
- demonstrates functional ergonomics with patient, ultrasound screen and proceduralist positioning essential for efficient practical performance,
- provides block notes with sonoanatomy tips and practical tips from experienced clinicians which can be invaluable to the learner.
AnSo is not only for regional anaesthesia but includes many other perioperative uses of ultrasound relevant to the anaesthetist, such as:
- airway
- gastric antrum
- vascular access
- spine
- transthoracic echo
- lung signs
AnSo contains:
- over 250 ultrasound images with over 1500 sonoanatomy colour overlays,
- innervation images,
- ergonomic images,
- landmarks pattern sketches,
- loops when required for dynamic sonoanatomy,
- notes with tips from experienced clinicians.
AnSo helps identify not only the target structures but all the surrounding sonoanatomy. This more comprehensive understanding of the sonoanatomy helps detect anatomical variability, improves the safety and efficacy of procedures, and facilitates learning and teaching.
AnSo has been designed in a format that can be easily updated and distributed to users so the information can be kept as current as possible in this rapidly expanding field.
AnSo does not require an internet connection to run. Once downloaded all data is stored on your device so it will work anywhere and images will display without any delay. It can be useful both in and out of theatre, when performing procedures, and when learning or teaching ultrasound. There is no advertising in the app making it pleasant and time efficient to use.

Download AnSo today and always have access to this sonoanatomy and nerve block resource.
App itself is fantastic however the compulsory update when you first open it is incredibly frustrating. Theatre environments often have poor wifi / reception which makes this app unusable at the most important times. Have had to unfortunately switch to another app for this reason.
Auto update problem
fast and smooth 89
App is really great when it isn’t “checking for updates”. This happens the majority of times I go to use the app and takes 5-10min by which time Ive given up and renders the app useless. Is there a work around for this?
Just so slow
54r45
Makes you log in every time you open. Then takes ages to load new data. Constantly updating data causing lag in the app. Still can only use landscape. Very frustrating when you need to check something quickly in a busy clinical day. Just overall very poor execution for the price; the free one is much better or use another paid alternative IMO.
Developer Response
Thanks 54r45 for the useful feedback. If you do not sign out of the app, just close it, you should not have to sign in again with next use, it should just open. We are aware of time pressures in a busy operating theatre and are working to minimise the time it spends checking for updates to speed the reopening. We strive to keep the cost to a minimum and intend to make it free for Plan A blocks later this year with the subscription for the rest of the content. It works in landscape only to maximise the size of the US images as we feel they are too small to be useful in portrait. Thanks for taking time to give feedback. We will continue to work on these issues. Kind regards, AnSo.
Improvement needed

It’s quite shocking how bad the last few updates have been. A once essential app has been rendered almost unusable. My recent experience:- Constantly having to re-sign in- App claiming I don’t have a subscription- Images not loading, last major update appeared to delete stored images despite them not seeming to have been changed with the update- Long loading screens and still no viable options for offline-only or poor data reception zones. If the app isn’t instantly ready to use even when network connectivity it unfortunately is useless. Unless it changes rapidly I’m afraid I won’t renew my subscription which is a shame.
Developer Response
Hi berio579,Thanks for your fair feedback. It has been a disappointing month. We have been working had to fix the issues and a new fix is now in testing. It will hopefully get to you in a few days and the app will then be back to being useful.Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you. Thanks for your patience while we fix it.kind regardsAnSo
