Good authenticator with room for improvement.

Proton Authenticator functions reliably as a 2FA tool, but its user interface feels visually disconnected from the rest of the Proton ecosystem. The grainy, metallic background adds unnecessary visual clutter and undermines the minimalist design language Proton typically adheres to.Functionally, the app works well. However, it lacks key customization features that would significantly improve usability. Users should be able to:•Rename entries for clarity•Change or upload custom icons per service•Toggle visibility of TOTP codes (hide/unhide) to simplify transferring to another deviceOverall, it’s a secure, solid offering, but the interface and feature set need refinement to align with Proton’s standards and user expectations.

Works but UX could use improvement

As far as I’ve gone with using it, most of it works as intended and even better compared to other authentication apps I’ve used when it comes to speed, simplicity, and sync functionality. Some things that could be fixed tho such as the reordering of codes in manual sorting mode. Otherwise, surprised this isn’t advertised along the rest of the proton apps, i basically came across it by accidentEdit: I believe the weird functionality is mostly a problem with the latest ios 26 beta so if that’s the case I don’t see much else that I would point out

It’s a good start, but hopefully, Proton won’t settle and evolve the usability.A couple of minor details I wish were improved:1. Deletion on an entry should be available only from the Edit screen. There should be an option to restore a deleted entry for at least an hour. And it should certainly not be available on swipe-right. Nobody deletes MFA on a whim like emails. Thus, it should not be easily accessible. I freak out whenever I accidentally swipe on a record and the delete option appears.2. The Hide codes option is good. However, there should be an option to temporarily show a code for an individual entry. You can see that in financial apps where the balance can be hidden by default and revealed on double-tap or long-press.3. The UI looks like an escapee from 2000s. What is that plus button and search box?? Please update the interface for Liquid Glass.4. How does the icon selection work? I want to update/change icons for existing entries.
