This app is really useful for watching movies, tv shows and other things on the go, without having to pay for a Netflix or Stan account. With Plex, you don’t have to pay for a Plex Pass to use the app, but buying the pass allows you to use features not available without it. My only concern with this is it takes a while to download the shows and movies. For example, I downloaded a movie that was about 2 hours long, and it took about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. I wasn’t keeping total track of the progress, but it took longer than I expected.Personally, I only use this for movies and tv shows, but it can be used for photos, music and other things as well. However, I can’t say anything about those features since I don’t use them.Another complaint I have is that sometimes when I’m watching a movie, it says something like it’s unable to show the video because the device can’t handle the level of quality it’s showing. This is more of a question than a complaint really. I’m just wondering how I can prevent or fix this problem, because I don’t understand what I have to do to watch the movie without interruptions. That’s all for this review. Overall, I would say it is a good app to have, and although it has some small fixes to make, it is a great place to watch movies and tv shows, store and organise photos and music, and do all the above without adds or having to buy anything, but still giving you the option to do so.I would recommend this to my friends and others who want to watch, listen or organise things well.My opinion of the Plex app is:👍🏻
New update awful
Snowapples
I’ve been thrilled with plex since I started using it 2yrs ago, but this new mobile app update may have ruined that. Subtitles no longer work on my tv via chromecast, there is no longer an option to continue playback on your phone when you disconnect from chromecast (a helpful feature I used multiple times a day, now I’m wasting time getting it going ok my phone again after disconnecting) the new menus to episodes and seasons on tv shows now take far longer to navigate, as does switching from tv to film libraries (that one is actually DIFFICULT for me now as someone with small hands, a one-handed task just become a two-hands job), also connecting to devices now brings up a whole redundant full screen menu which is incredibly annoying, and there’s no option to cast from your phone while you’re already watching something anymore, I have to close the ep and connect my phone and start the ep again. Too much change, it’s not just the fact all of it making the user experience far less smooth and take up more of my time and effort. I bought an annual plex pass last month because I valued my routine with plex and the solid features and interface of the mobile app, but if I’d known it was going to change this drastically for the worse I wouldn’t have paid that. Disappointed, heartbroken.
It mostly ok. Needs better Chromecast and subtitle support
Addictivkaos
Use extensively for casting media from a local Plex Media Server to a Google Chromecast. Ironically that seems to the Plex app’s weak spot. It you pause a show and come back after some time, Plex can’t or won’t communicate with the Chromecast, even though it will either display on the TV the show or the Plex “ready to cast” screen. I have to close the playing show and then (optionally browse to the show) hit play on the episode from the season list. I’ve also notice sometimes it can’t find the Chromecast, yet it shows up on other iOS devices. Sometimes it will claim to be casting, but the chrome cast doesn’t receive/process requests from the Plex appWhy can’t I use the Plex app to fetch a new subtitle file. Say from OpenSubtitles or similar? Have a look at Infuse app and see how useful it is.
The new app is TERRIBLE
tvarian
I’m a very long time Plex user. I’ve had a lifetime pass for many years and use it on my TV and iPad daily. First, a month or so ago, Plex started running terribly on my Samsung TV - lots of issues like videos glitching and losing audio sync. My iPad however still ran it great, with no issues. Then the app updated on my iPad and it is as bad as it is on my TV. Actually it’s worse, at present it’s totally unusable. I try to watch things and they randomly pause/stop playing and won’t resume unless you restart the video. Or I even have it refuse to play certain parts of shows I’ve watched many times over years. Using another LAN streaming app has no issues with these files, and Plex never had a problem before. It just weirdly skips back several minutes and never will play past a certain point. WHY WOULD YOU BREAK SUCH A KILLER APP? It ran so well before! And this isn’t even mentioning the terrible and poorly thought out UI changes. So disappointed that my favourite program is so ruined, just so confusing.

FIXES:

- Deleting a playlist would silently fail.
- Downloads could restart after backgrounding and foregrounding the application.
- Empty images could be uploaded as posters.
- Fixed a crash that could happen when launching the app from an unknown deep link.
- Fixed images reloading from the network when returning to a screen.
- Horizontally swiping on Manage Artwork screen causes vertical scrolling and can close the menu.
- Player: Auto-Skip Intro/Credits could not be cancelled.
- Player: Live TV playback could stop after initial airing ended.
- Player: prefer playing versions that exist over ones that don't.
- Tapping the edit button on the moderation status screen would close the screen instead of opening the editor.
- The context menu would stay open after performing some actions.
- The signed in user's friend request count would be incorrectly displayed on others' friends lists.
