Best language learning app

I’ve used a lot of apps, and I attend in person lessons and have visited Greece and been studying the language for two years. The biggest challenge is daily practice so a fun app is really helpful. Rosetta Stone is the most sophisticated app I've used as it uses reading, speaking, listening and recording. The lessons are fun, and indicate the length, and have improved my skills rapidly, it’s easy to integrate them into my busy days. Highly recommend! I’m excited to also have the option of learning other languages!

Good, but room for improvement

I really like the concept of Rosetta Stone. Learning without translation through repetition while looking at descriptive images. This is how we originally learned our first language (with images replicating our real situations); however when we originally learnt we did not learn to speak read and write all at the same time. I feel that just learning to speak for the first few months would be more natural and more manageable. There is quite the cognitive overload trying to do everything at once.

Finally since Rosetta Stone has decided to have us learn to hear speak read write all at the same time I would appreciate it if they could make it easier to repeat lessons. I am managing to move through at a slow steady pace however I need to repeat lessons multiple times and the app really doesn’t like me doing that. The lessons seem to run in blocks of 39; so after running through the 39 lessons I like to start again at 1 and redo al 39, however this seems to make the app crash, or only repeat a small portion of the original lesson and then when I have completed 1 again it will jump randomly to lesson 28 or something.

Overall I’m finding it useful and I will continue using it, however I would really be pleased if some of my issues were addressed.

Arabic

I studied Classical Arabic 40 years ago, and I know Hebrew, but I wanted to learn MSA to work with students. It’s been a week. A lot is coming back, but avoid skipping. Repetition is good for you! The speaking part is hard, but persevere - get the muscles moving & memorisation working. You may want to dip into a grammar book and Google translate for unclear vocabulary. I’m nearing the end of level 1. I’m trying not to skip despite a bit of boredom. Results do show - when I see things online I can already make out things. If I keep at this for 7-8 weeks I may me at the top level. The trick will be my students correcting me and practice practice. It’s certainly a better interactive way than to learn in the old fashioned boring way. My only beef is the training in duals and final vowels, but make your choice. It’s good to be trained. I am also writing down words and phrases. It’s with the money if you do it every day. I get a bit lost at tracking myself and getting back into modules. That could be better.
