Description
Sky Live is a great app for planning the star observations and for making gorgeous photos of the starry night sky. Lots of astronomers and night sky photographers worldwide have chosen the app to help them in planning their nights out for watching stars, planets and constellations.
All necessary info is available at once: what planets, bright stars and constellations will be above horizon at night, what the weather is like, what the visibility score is, and much more. After setting the location you can check the stargazing index for the whole week ahead and learn the best time for the night out.
The unique index for stargazing conditions is calculated hourly and renews each time you start the app. The index depends on the following criteria:
- Weather forecast
- Light Pollution
- Visible objects
- The Moon light
The Sky Live app works in pair with Star Walk 2 that means you can see the chosen object in the sky and check more info about its’ path through the night sky. Sky Live also has an Apple Watch extension to alert you of upcoming astronomical events and tell you what’s going on in the sky over your location at the moment, e.g. ISS flyby or bright Iridium flare.
"For stargazers, Sky Live is exactly the app we've always needed to find out just how much of the stars we can see at night and when we'll be able to see our favourite constellations and planets." by Nathan Snelgrove, AppStorm.net.
Stunning space photos combined with everything you need to know about stargazing conditions for your location tonight. Stargazer or not - this app will spark your curiosity.
The most accurate hourly conditions for stargazing are estimated on seven criteria and summarized in one Stargazing Index that will give you all the information you need to make your plans. The formula was developed by a mathematician on the Star Walk team and takes into account:
- Is there anything interesting in the sky tonight?
- Can I see Saturn?
- Is it going to be cloudy?
- Is it going to rain?
- Too much light?
- Is the Moon too bright for stargazing?
You will also get detailed reports on position and trajectory of the International Space Station, the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter and other planets. The forecast is available for seven days ahead.

Ratings and Reviews
Please update to iOS 13 dark mode
Please update to ios13 dark mode I love Star Walk and Sky Live but without the support of iOS 13 dark mode it looks ugly. :(
Waste of money
I don't get it. The paid version doesn't do much more than the free version. The stargazing rating is inaccurate. Totally cloudy right now and it says good rating and yes location is correct. Clearoutside is much better.
Update July 2019
Ok so I have used this a bit more in the last few months. I increased my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. It does certain things quite well, which is predicting the quality of the conditions for stargazing and give a summary of what can be seen in the night sky (brightest stars, constellations, SSO's, etc). It doesn't do any more than this. Descriptions can be very misleading and are easy to word carefully so as to sell a product whilst not blatantly lying. I don't care about pretty pictures I want tools that help me at the eyepiece or planning my time at the eyepiece. This app does not help me plan my observations - it helps me decide whether I'm going observe or not. It does not make gorgeous photos of the night sky - nothing of the sort. Use in conjunction with others apps and programs.
Description is misleading
This app does not show you the sky by the hour only for an entire night which quite frankly is useless. It may we’ll be clear at 11pm and cloudy less than an hour later. The description of the app suggests otherwise but on questioning the developer they say that they might update the data if the forecast changes. Pretty dumb and pretty useless.
Don’t waste your money if you need a proper breakdown of the night sky forecast.
