Description

**Synology NAS and the Synology Photos service enabled are required for this application.**
**For optimal experience, DSM 7.2 or above is recommended.**

A flexible and comprehensive management tool that allows photo backup and browsing by chronological order or folder structure. Explore photos of loved ones or favorite vacation spots through AI recognition and auto-created albums. Group photos by themes or topics of your choice. Enjoy cherished memories in the palm of your hand.

What’s New

Version 2.0.1

Important Note:
1. A local item will be deleted when you delete its copy from the Synology Photos mobile app. However, if you delete the item directly from your phone's built-in app, the copy will still exist on your Synology NAS.
2. Changes to "Free Up Space” feature:
- once a file is backed up or uploaded to Synology NAS, Synology Photos flags it as ready to be freed up from your phone.
- if you move the file's copy on Synology NAS to a different Space, you won’t be able to free up the original file from your phone.
3. For users updating from version 1.5: Updating to this version will not trigger duplicating files due to renaming or moving them to a different Space.
4. For users updating from version 2.0: If you have previously renamed the files or moved them to another Space, to prevent them from being backed up again and creating duplicated files, turn off the photo backup. Re-enable it and choose "back up new photos only”.

What's New:
1. Supports viewing all photos, regardless of whether they are backed up or not, in the mobile app after backup is enabled.
2. Supports backing up modified photos again to keep all changes after backup is enabled.
3. Supports the notification for out-of-sync changes on the Synology Photos mobile app when moving photos to another Space or deleting them from File Station, Synology Photos web portal, SMB, etc.
4. Supports backing up and uploading multiple files at the same time for better efficiency.
5. Supports different backup options:
- Back up new photos only: Back up photos and videos taken from now on. Changes made to previous items will also be backed up as new files.
- Resume tasks: Continue the progress of the last backup task. Changes made to previous photos will be backed up as new files.
- Scan and back up all photos: If backed-up items have been moved to another Space, renamed, or deleted from Synology NAS, they will be backed up again. You may need to sign out of the Synology Photos mobile app and sign in again to select this option.

Fixed Issues:
1. Fixed an issue where a download might not be successful if you leave lightbox mode before it completes.
2. Fixed an issue where the limit of the cache size might be exceeded.
3. Fixed an issue when updating to version 2.0 where crash might happen unexpectedly.

Needs a lot of work

Moving from Moments to this app I lost all the AI folders where I used to go to find specific photos not knowing when was taken to browse that way. Now it takes ages to find specific photos that I don’t know when was take. Very surprised you removed a major feature the AI.
“Upload Queue” is always at zero not showing the backed up or the queued photos, however I can see there’s quite a few photos to be backed up and backing up, just not showing under upload queue.
I didn’t find a better way to pass this feedback.
I don’t want to particularly open a support ticket since it’s related to a lack of app development at this point in time. I know it’s fairly new so knowing Synology products I’m sure you’ll improve it. Really hoping to be able to import all the AI folders from Moments into this app.

Works well!

Uploading process for a first time user is long for someone with slow internet, but using the sleep time backup overnight with a non auto-locking screen works great.

Shared albums, airplay, and people detection all work great. Can easily merge people when you find duplicates.
Live photos integrate well. Play as expected when you hold a photo down within the app.
Cannot download as a live photo, but can download the live photo as a still image or video.

Thanks!

My suggestions:
- Notifications for new uploads in a shared album ***

- A switch to exclude screenshots from being included in future mobile back ups

- Not sure if it’s possible but to detect locally deleted/edited photos.

— If I delete photos from my phone, maybe they can appear in a “recently deleted on device” view. It can recognise the deleted photo is on the server and offer a way to delete them there too

— If I edit a photo, can it suggest to replace the existing backed up photo.

These would be big features that would help me maintain a clean library with only the best and most current versions of photos

I would be more than happy to run a manual search once a month on my phone to check for deleted and edited photos if thats the only solution

No Editing Feature whatsoever!

The app works quite well for storing photos and videos. As a photographer I mean issue with this app is that there is no editing facilities whatsoever if that timer to rotate the image. And what makes it worse is it if you edit the image before uploading to synergy photos and then you’ll be edit that same image you’re stuck with the original image uploaded in other words. No changes are made to the image uploaded in Synology Photos app. It’s quite frustrating as every other image app allows even basic edits. Come on Synology! When will you be fixing this problem? I Don’t want to be forced to stop using it and having to find another solution! Pleas give us a update and timeline on this..
