Description
Translate lets you quickly and easily translate your voice and text between languages. Designed to be the best and easiest-to-use app for translating phrases, conversations and even the text around you. Translate combines high-quality translations with an intuitive design, so that translating is quick and easy.
Features
• Text translation — Text translation is fast, simple and intuitive. All supported languages include their keyboards so you don’t have to download or manually switch between them
• Voice translation — Translate your voice from one language to another. The app detects which of the two selected languages you’re speaking and provides the translated text and audio in the other language
• Conversations — In the Conversation tab, tap the single microphone button to speak, and automatic language detection will transcribe what you say in chat bubbles on the correct side of the conversation
• Translate camera — Translate text around you using the camera view. Translate text in real time, pause the view to zoom in for a closer look or translate text in photos from your Photos library
• Dictionary — Tap a word in a completed translation to see the definition in the built‑in dictionary
• On-device mode — Enable a fully offline experience in Translate and for downloaded languages. Keep your translations private without needing to turn off your internet connection
• Auto Translate — Translate speech without tapping the microphone button in a conversation. Auto Translate automatically detects when you start speaking and when you stop, so the other person can just respond
• Face-to-face view — Change the conversation view when chatting face to face so that each person can see the conversation from their own side
• Favourites — For phrases you use frequently and want to keep, save them to your Favourites for easy access later

Ok but a bit lacking in many areas
Strange that Apple would invent widgets for ios but then not create them for their own apps. To get a good translate widget I have to use google???
I use it mostly for translating between English & Japanese. So having no Romaji option seems odd when most English speakers that still need to translate Japanese are unlikely to be able to read native Kana (hiragana / Katakana) & even when you tap on a kanji it only gives you kana in the dictionary. Fortunately I can read Kana but many travellers etc would be left in the dark by this app
Good - 1 Bug - 4 Feature Requests
Note for users:
if you download a language or intend to use ‘On Device Mode’ make sure you see the the download indicator(circle) finish before returning to the translator app.
Note for Apple:
Bug: When downloading a language, a chosen language(s) does not download unless ‘Manage Languages’ window is left open until the language is completely downloaded. To explain further, if the language(s) being downloaded for ‘Available Offline’ is selected then user goes back to the Translate app, the language simply will not download. This bug is consistent with iPhone and iPad. It is not a network issue as it has been tested on a network with 1000Mb internet.
Feature request 1:
Capability to change translator voice (male/female).
Feature request 2:
Capability to have live conversation with three or four different language speakers at the same time.
Feature request 3:
Capability to share AirPods wherein live translations of designated conversation partner is shared while iPhone is in pocket. For example you are conversing while moving around a city, transport or doing any other activity.
Feature request 4: Own voice can be used as the translation voice.
I like the Translate App.
I find it translates voice and text accurately, changing the Oder of the words from English to the other language (in my case German). The old saying about computers “ garbage in garbage out “ holds true. Meaning you need to speak clearly band write accurately. I find and love that the order of my words are changed making the sentences intelligible in the German language. I read many of the other reviews, representing your usual wingers, those making a judgment too soon and the contingent of nit pickers. Many of their points are well made but I’ve found with practice I prefer this to other apps I’ve used over the past 12 years. Good App do try it.
