Description
VicTraffic is the official traffic app from VicRoads.
The app stays up to date by automatically downloading new content when it is available.
Road Closures and Traffic Alerts are generally uploaded to the application during peak traffic periods of Monday to Friday, 6:45am to 6:45pm and after hours during significant emergency events.
Details include location, impacts and any special instructions such as detours.
Pre-planned interruptions such as Roadwork’s and Events are available up to 48hours in advance.
Freeway travel times and live traffic camera images from around Melbourne provide you with a live image of how traffic is looking there and then.
Features include:
- Locality Search
- Zoom to your location (location services)
- Customisable settings for different data types
- Region and Municipality filters

Too general
I like having this app as it identifies places that may be affected. However its alerts are too wide. A local one is listed as 24 hours continuous works over a period of a month. This ended up being 8pm to 5am over one night during that period.
The mobile sign posted on the road had a shorter period indicate but even that gave a fortnight span for ‘nightworks’.
Being close to the road sleep was impossible while it was happening. However with these unhelpful indicators one didnt know whether to live somewhere else temporarily.
Both the signage and app could be more specific.
This intersection is still marked on the map even though their one night was a week ago.
Needs better filters
I am trying to use this to plan a long journey while much of the state is flooded, but it is almost impossible as:
1. Many of the ‘incidents’ were last updated 14 days ago.
2. There is no way to filter to just major roads, so the map is awash with hundreds of minor road closures.
I just want to know if the Hume Highway is open or not, and there is no way to tell.
No live traffic
Having to travel much of the state and CBD I use this app all day and everyday. Previously, I could choose a route according to traffic conditions. Roads were easy to decipher whether traffic was light, medium or heavy by the colour of the road. The screen was easy to move with one finger.
The latest update may as well be a screen shot of Victoria. No relevant information is readily available. My previous rating was 5 stars. The new update is useless as teets on a bull. Please fix so that live traffic conditions are easy to find. Make it the first screen when opening the app.
Don’t give this project to a kid that’s doing computer science for their grade 3 assignment.
