We brew coffee for the moment, and every coffee brings its own flavours. Baristro is a coffee journal that keeps those moments: the bag, the recipe you used and how the cup felt.
WHY I MADE IT
I'm Ranen, a recent design graduate from Hong Kong, and I make coffee every day. There are many coffee journals, but I couldn't find one with feeling, for what I had and what I want to remember about that day and that cup. So I made Baristro. It keeps the numbers too, but it isn't a lab note. It's about you.
Every brew you log prints a receipt, and you tear it off. It's the moment the app steps out of the screen and feels like something real in your hands: a small reward for the cup you just made, and a bit of fun.
And colour is the heart of Baristro, because colour is how a feeling looks. Each bag glows in the colour you pick for it, and the orb turns the colour of how your cup felt. We brew and drink with feeling, so I wanted you to see it.
THE BEANS
• Keep every bean you buy: roaster, origin, process, varieties and the roaster's own tasting notes.
• Give each bag a colour, and it glows on your shelf.
• Add the roast date and Baristro shows where the bag is in its life: Resting, Peak, Good, Fading or Stale.
• Add the bag size and every brew takes its dose off it, so you can see what's left at a glance.
THE RECIPE
• Save how you brew once: brew method, dose, water, time, temperature, grinder and grind setting.
• Lay out the steps (bloom, pour, swirl, wait) and see them drawn to scale.
• Set the grind the way your grinder shows it. Popular grinders get their own drawn dial that clicks as you turn it.
• Give each recipe one of nine folder colours, so your favourite stands out.
THE CUP
• Log a brew on a single page. Pick the bean and the recipe, then nudge the dose, water or grind for this cup without changing the recipe.
• Every brew prints its own receipt to tear off.
• Baristro remembers what you did last time with the same bean and recipe, and how it turned out.
• Rate the cup: pick the tasting notes you find, add acidity, body, sweetness and aftertaste if you want to go further, then slide to give it a score. The orb moves from purple for Meh to coral red for Unforgettable.
YOUR JOURNAL
• There's no account to make, and nothing goes to a Baristro server, because there isn't one. There are no ads, and nothing tracks what you do.
• Weather greetings come on once you let Baristro use your location, and you can turn them off any time in Settings. Baristro sends only a rough location (about 10 km) to Apple Weather.
• Searching for a coffee shop uses Apple Maps.
• Scan a Bag runs on your iPhone with no network.
• Baristro saves a backup on your iPhone each day you use it, and Export makes a file whenever you want one.
• Ask Siri "What is my latest brew in Baristro" or "What beans do I have in Baristro".
BARISTRO PRO
• Scan a Bag: point your camera at a coffee bag and the form fills itself in. The scan uses Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, so the photo never leaves it. Requires iOS 27 and an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
• Unlimited open bags: keep as many bags open as you like. Free includes 2.
• Every bag shape and colour: pouches, jars, tins or boxes, in any colour.
• Recipe stamps and colours: a symbol and any colour for each recipe.
• Every app icon: glowing ones, or copper, walnut or a flavour.
• Home Screen widgets: what's left in your bags, how fresh they are, your last cup and your month of brewing.
Baristro Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and you can manage or cancel it any time in your Apple Account settings.

Fixes and polish
• Added over 40 more grinders to pick from.
• The Barista Card at the end of the intro is easier to pull up.
• The Flavour Wheel closes only with its buttons, so a swipe can't lose what you've picked.
• Lots of small fixes all over.
