With apologies to the nice people at Oxford, dictionaries don’t usually look all that great. But LookUp is a dictionary for those with a penchant for aesthetics; the app delivers its daily definitions with illustrations that trigger both sides of your brain. Learn from a mahoosive collection of words like reticent, impresario, and mahoosive, which, we just learned, is really a word. Tap a card for pronunciations, origins, and synonyms; heart a word if you have a particular adulation for it.
Most compelling dictionaries very intuitive UI

By far, the best rendition of a visual dictionary designed specifically for electronic format (take that Britannica) with a compelling visual, rapid way of wanting to learn new words. ( take that Webster, Oxford, erc) Family integration is a great way to keep in sync with my kid and spouse. The additional extra language translation is an unexpected bonus. As are the external links. Decent subscription model.Excellent choice of widgets style.Works specifically well on my iPad , with a landscape tuned UI layout. I got the lifetime.I genuinely wish they will not lose their way.I'm rooting for them to not disappear as some big names did or made confusing and/or unreasonable priced decisions. Kudos !

Downloaded for the word of the day widget feature advertised, which doesn’t work, the widget shows nothingAnd the word of the day stopped after 2 days even in the app and haven’t showed anything. Had a potential but didn’t turn out to be nice.
Bad APP for Apple Watch - Better now 2026-01-21 👇
Réfléchi
I’ve had this app for three years now. It been always a problem for my Apple Watch. I mean that I have some problem with the possibility to hear the pronunciation and also now crashed all the time. So, I switched to Miriam Webster‘s dictionary and I have the good definition and no problem except the pronunciation is just an iPhone. I hope this review help you.2026-01-21: I just got an email telling they resolved the problem (v.12.0.3). Actually, it works well (listening the pronunciation) on my Apple Watch, for now. Thanks!
