It just doesn't work

Note: I use my reader mainly to read my own collection of documents/novels.
My files transferred easily, and the titles displayed in folders as you would expect. However, when I tried to read any book (tried several) it repeatedly displayed the first page. There was a visual page scroll, but I could never get past the first page.
Thinking that I had a corrupt copy and removed the app from my iPad and from my PC, then downloaded a fresh copy but the same problem persisted.
To make it much worse; each time I started the app it pops up a 15 second nag message asking me to upgrade! I would rate this app as possibly the worst app I have ever experienced from the App Store.
