What’s New

Version 16.61

Hey OneNote Mac community!

We’re bringing you one of the most requested features this week. Starting now, your notes on Mac will be automatically backed up on your Mac and not just in the cloud. The cloud is still the best place for all your notes, so that you can access them from any device, but local backups give an extra layer of peace of mind.

While we hope you won't need it, if you do hit a problem on your Mac and need to recover a note, go to OneNote preferences and select Backups. From there, you can customise your back up preferences and access your backed up notes.

We hope you love it!

Great app could be eve better

I use OneNote for couple of years and during that period I found it very convenient. I really appreciate equations, advanced system for content categorization, tagging and a lot more. I became familiar with the app very quickly and the more often I'm using it, the more I love it. Especially great is app availability on all platforms/devices I use.

I believe that every user has it's own habbits which shapes his patterns during app usage. For instance I use similar note structure and formatting for majority of pages because I found my content clear and readable and it take me less time to find important information (which I consider for the key benefit of the app). And one you make lot of note, this structure creation could be quite tedious. Therefore one function I would really appreciate is some templating system that I could place formatted blocks (of text, tables, etc.) into my notes. That would be really superb.

Less orientation in your notebooks than before

Hi guys, I love working with OneNote, especially with full fledged app on Windows. I like the design changes you made to MacOS version, it is modern and fluent BUT there is a big disadvantage in using more than one notebook. Why do I have to switch notebooks via menu? Why I cannot pin it to the left menu so I can easily switch between my 4 notebook? Also, I got the idea of sections on the left even though I would rather have tabs, but why I cannot enlarge Section and Pages by any width I want? I am limited and since I am using a lot of leveling and long names, I would love to have this possibility. And last thing is search. Having it on separate tab/icon is not best. It is better than having sidebar since I can preview notes better, but it is not showing me exact location of page between other pages (another column could be created to have it here, next to search results). And search field would be amazing to have in application header, too. I know, I know, cmd F is the way, but it could be done better overall. Please do something with it .-)

[Missing] Playing GIFs and Tagging the documents

I love all the features that OneNote provide. However I miss some features that I see as user friendly. I like GIFs and sometimes a short GIF clip is worth of thousands of words decribing the static image. However, this feature is missing on the MacOS platform.

Another feature that is superuseful is tagging of documents for better search and organization of my notes.

I would love to see those features in OneNote.
