DeepFrame is a deep-sky imaging planner for astrophotographers. Point it at your location and any night — tonight or a simulated one — and it shows exactly what's worth shooting and when.
WHAT IT DOES
• Plots every catalogue object's path across your sky from dusk to dawn, with a midnight marker.
• Picks out the imageable window — where each object is high enough (alt ≥ 25°) and culminating near midnight — so you know the best hours to capture it.
• Draws your rig's true field of view around any object, so you can judge framing before you set up.
• Overlays a real all-sky survey photo, the Milky Way, constellations, named stars, the ecliptic, planets and the Moon — toggle each layer to taste.
• Masks YOUR local horizon: capture a 360° skyline with the camera (a guided sweep, or import a panorama), edit the sky away, and objects that never clear your trees and buildings are flagged as blocked.
• Keeps your imaging log: per-object sessions with date, scope, camera, filters and exposure, your own processed thumbnails, and how far each got — finished, captured-but-unprocessed, or stacked-with-no-result-yet.
• Lays your own processed shots on the chart, on their own icon, at the exact field of view they were taken at — so you can see what you've already covered.
• Browse your whole imaging database: a searchable, sortable, groupable list of every object with each night underneath. Tap a picture for the full frame; tap a name to jump to it on the sky.
BUILT FOR THE FIELD
• Works fully offline — the ~5200-object catalogue, all maths and your data live on device.
• Fast, gesture-driven all-sky chart: pan, pinch to zoom, tap any object for its card, tracks and imaging log.
• A time capsule to preview any past or future night.
EVERYTHING IS FREE
The full catalogue, every object type, magnitude and size, unlimited rigs, locations and your own shots — all free. No account, no ads, no tracking.
Built with open astronomy data (OpenNGC, VizieR/CDS) and public survey imagery (Pan-STARRS via CDS; NOIRLab all-sky photo). Full credits in the About screen.

DeepFrame has had a long run of releases since the last one on the store. The
headlines:
YOUR IMAGING, ON THE SKY AND IN YOUR HAND
• Your own processed shots are now drawn on the chart, on their own cutout icon, at the exact field of view they were shot at — and they zoom with the sky, not against it.
• Browse your whole imaging database on the phone: a searchable, sortable, groupable list of every object, with each night's session underneath — date, scope, camera, filters, exposure and a thumbnail per night. Tap a picture to see it full-size; tap an object's name to jump straight to it on the sky.
• Every object and every night now says how far it got: finished, captured-but-not-processed, or stacked-but-no-result-yet — with a filter to show only what you've completed.
A FASTER, TRUER SKY
• The all-sky survey photo is now drawn on the GPU as a cube map — it appears instantly instead of the old half-second freeze on every reframe, and you can zoom in to 16×.
• Positions are now correct to the arcminute: catalogue coordinates are precessed to the night's epoch (about 22′), the Moon is topocentric (up to ~1°), and the whole sky is drawn for the true middle of the night rather than wall-clock midnight (about an hour's difference).
• The imageable window is now the longest unbroken run above 25°, so a circumpolar object that dips low is no longer reported as up all night.
• The observing day rolls over at local noon, so after midnight the app shows the night you're standing in.
A CHART THAT DOES WHAT YOUR HAND ASKS
• Stepping the time capsule now moves the whole sky — every object, star and planet — not just the clock.
• A tap selects and nothing else; centring an object is a deliberate double-tap or a long-press on its card.
• Pinch anywhere to zoom, even with an object's card open.
• Object names you can actually read, and the meridian drawn across the whole sky.
Plus: the rig list is built from your real equipment (telescopes and camera lenses), your recent searches come back as chips, and dozens of smaller fixes.
