What’s New

Version 5.5

We have some exciting updates this month, along with some bug fixes:

- We have improved the Remove Tool. You can now brush over or circle around large, unwanted objects with this tool, which uses intelligent technology to analyze the image and determine the right content to fill automatically while preserving the integrity of objects and depth in complex and varied backgrounds.

- We fixed an issue where RAW files were unable to be imported.

- We also fixed an issue where some users were unable to log in with their credentials.

Have a great March and keep creating!

- The Photoshop Team

Editors’ Notes

Photoshop for iPadOS is powered by the same code base that drives the iconic desktop version, and it adds a new customizable interface optimized for touch and Apple Pencil. It’ll look instantly familiar to longtime fans. But Photoshop on iPad also feels like a new experience. To explore all that’s new, go to the app’s home screen and tap Learn for introductory videos and lessons on masking, creating composite images, and more.

Each little update gets us closer to full fat photoshop

So we have to be realistic this still isn’t the photoshop experience a seasoned desktop user is used to. But don’t write it off straight away. If you are willing to try out some workaround workflows I think you will be surprised at what is possible now on the iPad.

I think the update that everyone is waiting for is the ability to have more adjustment layer options. Which thankfully Adobe have said, isn’t too far off. But in the meantime, you can always work around these options by using the light room for your colour edits. And Photoshop, for your detailed retouches of selections.

Although to be honest give it another year, I think we might be on the verge of a more fully featured photoshop app. Fingers crossed and shout out to the Adobe app developers, for always listening and prioritising new features, creatives crave. While ensuring they are fine tuned for an iPad experience.

It’s awesome why all the hate?

I know some folks may feel a little deflated about the lack of features in this release but honestly let’s look at the positives, first the layout , Adobe have made the transition from the desktop to the iPad Pro very intuitive it just works and is a great experience to use, you are able to forget about the program and just concentrate your project and being able to pick up on your desktop where you left off on your iPad is just awesome, you can work on projects on the move and jump straight on the desktop when back at the studio. Sure there are features missing which will com in time but none has touched on a big positive in my opinion, for those folks who are not fluent in photoshop this a great way to learn it really from the ground up, using the basic tools on the iPad which are powerful by the way and understand the way it works is huge and can only help them get to grips with it all and as and when new features are added they will grow as it grows, I am super excited about the future of this app now Apple has finally made the iPad Pro worth using with there latest updated OS.
