Description

• This app only grows if more locations are added by users, it’s called “Crowd-Sourcing” so if you find there are no parking spaces shown in your local town for example, click link in Setting, go to website & add them.

Description:-
This app uses a database of parking locations by kind permission of Dan Gibson at “BlueBadgeParking.com”. After the initial launch of app, if you don’t have cellular connection it uses the last version saved. When launched, app looks for nearest spaces to your location based on Search Radius selected in ‘Settings’ (default 3 miles / 4.5kms).

Map tab:-
The circular ‘Zoom’ button toggles between 3 views, Zoom just nearby locations or your location & all nearby locations & if a pin is selected then it zooms right into just that location. The pin flag has a blue ‘i’ & if you touch that a menu appears with Navigation Options.

Searching other Towns:-
In the main ‘Map’ tab, touch the search box at the top & you can enter not only a Town or City but also Post or Zip codes or What3Words.

List tab:-
The list which is sorted so nearest to you or if you used the search box then nearest that location is at the top. Parking locations are within same Search Radius as Map. If your location has changed then ‘pull’ list down ‘to refresh’ distances & locations. If you would like to view a particular location just touch description & ‘Map’ tab opens with that location shown.

Notify tab (The following features will be added soon):-
This tab lets you Add, Edit, Move or Delete locations. The Mark & Favourite options do fully work allowing users to Mark a location temporally & the Favourite is a more permanent option & remembered even after a Full Database downloaded.

Settings tab:-
This tab lets you change the search radius, distance units, enable / disable Beep Sounds, Delete ‘Marked’ which has 4 options, Enable Shake feature, Disable Screen Auto Lock, Larger Display changes size of text & some controls, Zoom with Satellite view, display all Favourite in List Tab, Use Map Pan & Shake in Map Tab which has 3 options. These settings are remembered when the app is closed, ready for next time.

Short Cuts:-
There are 3 functions that use the ‘Shake’ facility which means when you shake your iDevice firmly, it will trigger one of these:-
1/ In Map tab
If there are parking location pins visible, it zooms into nearest. You can then touch zoom button which temporally switches to Satellite view.
2/ Notify tab
After shaking iDevice a Menu appears with 3 options.
A/ ‘Add’, ‘Quick’ or ‘Favourite’ location which at present work but you can’t update the database directly.
B/ “’Mark’ Location on Map” this drops a pin on the map where you are standing, so if you are stood by your vehicle it helps you find it again later. The flag includes road name, current Date & Time to act as a reminder if parking time is limited. You can add as many of these as you want & ‘Discard’ them individually or if enabled in Settings, app will automatically remove them after the chosen delay.

There are 2 compass features in Map:-
1/ Touch & Hold the map & a compass arrow appears, rotate iDevice until arrow with words ‘Device North’ is pointing to the top of the screen. Now pins or Points of Interest are in the direction relative to your screen.
2/ Touch any pin & choose ‘Location Direction’ & a blue arrow appears pointing towards the pin & the Line of Sight distance is shown inside the arrow. These are constantly updated as you walk about, to dismiss arrow, just touch screen.

Show Walking Route:-
From the Map “Navigation Options” select ‘Show Walking Route’ & app calculates best walking route to the selected pin & displays the actual distance. This feature requires a network connection.

Compatibility:-
Blue Badge Parking is Universal, ideally with cellular connection (not essential as the last downloaded data is retained), compatible with all iPad’s with GPS, all iPhone 4 to latest iPhone.

What’s New

Version 1.1.08

• I have found cause of crash in iOS 17 and hopefully cured it now.
• Found a few other minor bugs which have been corrected.
• New features mean minimum requirement is now iOS 14 or newer.
• This app only grows if more locations are added by users, it’s called “Crowd-Sourcing” so if you find a missing parking space in your local town for example, in Setting tab click the link to website & add them directly. You can also easily email me the location by using Notify tab and adding the location by first selecting the number of spaces, then ‘shaking’ device to access the Add ‘Quick’ location menu. Then go the List tab and long press the location you just add and an email fully completed with all the information needed will appear ready for you to send to support. I will then add your location to the database.

BBUk2012 ,

It’s great to have an app!

Update: Developer reached out which is great!! - Andrew; the link on Apple didn’t work to reach out to you so writing here - I have an IPhone X (preferred display appearance ‘dark’). When typing on your app’s search bar the text is white. White search bar - white text is the problem. On separate note, thanks for the hints on using Waze and also now understand the ‘edit location’ function, which I will use to update locations, when needed. And thanks again for this app! It is a life saver! **** It is great to have an app showing the disabled parking spaces as it is definitely a struggle. No app seems to consider the need of disabled people. So I very much appreciate the work the developers have put into this. I only wish it would be a bit more user friendly such as the colour scheme does not allow to read the search bar; it would be great if it could link to Waze or Google map so it can give you directions to drive and take you right to the address etc. And possibly enable users to update the details as half the time the details are missing.

Developer Response ,

Hi BBUK2012
I am pleased you are finding my app useful but sorry about its shortcomings. I too am disabled so will do my best to help you. If you email me directly and explain how you would like me to improve the search bar colours, I will update it as soon as I can. As to the other matter about getting map directions, that is already available in the app. My app checks if Apple Maps, Waze (my preferred SatNav) or Google Maps are installed and automatically creates the route from your location when you click on the button in my app. If you use other SatNav apps (Tomtom for example) there is the option to copy the disabled parking location you have found to the clipboard. You can then open the app and paste the location (latitude and longitude) into the destination. When you email me I can explain this in more detail with pictures if that helps.

UPDATE
Hi. I didn’t know website was down, trying to sort out why now.

You don’t need to use copy to clipboard & paste, just click Waze button and app do the rest.

I haven’t forgotten you, I am away at present and still making minor changes to the app. Also it gives me a chance to test the improvements including the Dark Mode problems you had. Hopefully I can release update next week.

Improved interface and squished bugs make this app outstanding

Update: The developer asked me for advice on improving the interface and identify any bugs. This has now been addressed.

Don’t be put off by the interface. The app is very easy to use and perfect for finding disabled parking spots. I often need to find disabled parking around University College Hospital in London and so I downloaded this app to help find the spots. The spot I usually use wasn’t in the app but there is a very easy way to submit new spots, which I did. Recommended.

Developer Response ,

Hi Alastair I am pleased you find my app useful and I am always willing to improve my apps so would value your thoughts on how to make it less ugly.

I am a retired mechanical design engineer who has taught himself to program but don’t have any graphics design experience. I have tried to add little touches and blue is my favourite colour but that’s obviously not enough.

I should also say I am Visually Impaired which may have a bearing on what I create although I believe that a few of the users also have limited sight but this could be catered for within settings via a switch.

Would you be prepared to work with me to improve the app’s visual Impact?

Please email me your comments / suggestions and I will see what I can do. supportcaduk@icloud.com

Developer Response ,

Hi Arnival 99

Thank you so much for your kind review, it makes all the hard work trying to write & improve my app worthwhile.
I hope to release an update soon to allow panning in the map tab when I have finished testing it.
