Best audiobook player, full stop.

It's totally free with no ads at all! You will need to have the audio file (almost any format is supported) which can be imported into the app via different methods. The player works well with multiple files as well because you can easily combine them into volumes. Once you start playing a book you, it'll carry on in the background and if you pause the book and close the app, the next time you'll hit play it'll resume from the exact same point (if you play it after a day it will go back 30 seconds from your last stopped point). It also has really nice and informative widgets. All in all it is the best free audiobook player I've used.

Best Audio Book Player

Have been using this for the last 12 months and have to say it’s the best book player out there with a nice interface and it’s free. Nicely bookmarks where you have got to so next time you load up the app it just carries on from where it left off and the snooze function is excellent, use it nearly every night. My only improvement I could suggest would be to utilise iCloud so as to be able to sync across multiple devices for instance being able to use iPhone during the day and iPad at night.
—————————
I have now dropped this a star as per my original suggestion it now supports iCloud sync across devices but as a subscription based feature. The subscription costs are too high especially now when people are struggling financially and have to prioritise what they are spending on.

As a standalone player I still rate it the best out there for now.

Best alternative to Apple Books

When Apple upgraded to Books, then fragmented iTunes on macOS, navigating getting audiobooks onto my iPhone became nigh impossible. Syncing issues, title mixups, playing things in the wrong order... it’s not great.

I went online looking for alternatives, and most apps focus on the ‘audible’ format wherein you need a subscription and buy your books to play in the app. That’s fine, and I have an audible account, but what about the audiobooks I already own from years of collecting?

Enter: Book Player. It so easy to get my books into the app with iCloud and the Files app, the controls are simple and intuitive and I can finally listen to my books again! Kudos to the developers.
