Not an easy tour to follow

This doesn’t work like a traditional audio tour, where you follow numbers 1-20 in order through the museum. Instead it picks out various item numbers, which are in different rooms and not in the order as you walk round. So you spend most of the time like a treasure hunt trying to find item, then constantly on your phone pressing play / next. It’s very hard to just relax, a tour should let you walk round listening to the audio, and it should guide you where to find each item.

Developer Response ,

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We totally get it that exploring the massive galleries of the Museum can be overwhelming, especially when some of the tour routes aren't as straightforward as they could be.

Our goal with the self-guided tours is to enhance the visitor experience by providing curator commentary and allowing users to explore different items around a specific theme. For shorter visits, such as the Top 10 tour, we aimed to help visitors make the most of their limited time. However, we recognise that for some users, a more structured and guided approach would be more beneficial.

We take your feedback seriously and are committed to improving the app to meet the needs of our users. We will work on incorporating clearer guidance and a more sequential tour experience, helping visitors efficiently navigate the museum and find each item without feeling rushed or confused. We value your support and appreciate your patience as we continue to work on improving the Audio app. If you have any further suggestions or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at MobileDigital@britishmuseum.org.

Thanks, Mobile Digital team

Don’t bother downloading most audio is in app purchase

I was really disappointed that the British Museum app, which i presumed would provide a wealth of information and resources for free, requires payment for many of its features. As someone who enjoys exploring the museum's exhibits and learning about its rich history, I was disappointed to find that certain sections of the app, such as audio guides, are only accessible through in-app purchases. I’ve been to many museums across the world and often their audio tours are free!

Developer Response ,

Hello jeihsuhsihs. Thank you for your feedback. The Audio app is an important part of our commercial offerings that help support the Museum. Before the pandemic, we used to offer rental services for the Multimedia Guide for £7.5 per usage, which had to be returned by the end of the visit. With the Audio app, we've introduced more pricing options and made significant improvements by making audio content accessible permanently, wherever you are.

We are pleased to offer 65 gallery introductions, narrated by our curators, completely free of charge. You can find them via the Galleries menu or by entering the gallery numbers. In addition, we offer a free themed tour "Collecting and Empire" in English.

We appreciate your feedback and are always looking for ways to improve our services. If you have any further suggestions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at MobileDigital@britishmuseum.org.
