My review is the truth

Does not go into enough detail

I have had CBT before and am also trained in delivering CBT. This app does not explain techniques well enough in my opinion. It misses out the entire process of how to actually challenge and change NATs (never heard them called ANTs like the app refers to them as) and just jumps to the last stage, which won’t make meaningful change. It does slightly go through it in the “core beliefs section” HOWEVER, it takes multiple sessions with a therapist to be able to recognise core beliefs. You can’t just jump straight into it after a couple of sentences brief explanation of what core beliefs are. I also don’t like that it entirely focuses on changing thinking styles and pays no attention to behaviour change which is a key part of CBT. The “ABC” exercise isn’t an actual ABC cycle. Gratitude journaling is used by some therapists but is not a taught CBT technique. All in all, I feel this app could be a great and convenient way to use techniques but it doesn’t have enough depth to be effective.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your feedback. We recognize that a mobile app cannot be a replacement for multiple sessions with a therapist and there are limitations to enforcing behavioral change through digital interactions. We will take another look at the implementation and see if we can improve on it. In the meanwhile, please feel free to send us specific suggestions through the app. We will add them to our development backlog.
