A few tweaks would make this brilliant

Overall, the app is very good. It makes searching for classes and booking them fairly easy. However, there are some improvements that I think would make for an even better experience.

For ‘spinning’ sessions, e.g. Cyclone and Rhythm, it would be great to be able to change the bike after a booking is made.

Also, there are periods where its very difficult to book a class. This is normally at around 8pm as expected. However, if a booking is attempted, it often comes back to say that due to being busy, a booking hasn’t been successful. Further attempts often result in the same error. However, then, the message will change to something along the lines of ‘a provisional booking has already been made’ or ‘you already have a booking at this time’. Given that this is the busiest time for bookings, upgrading the infrastructure to support this would make this a fair less difficult process.

Finally, the notifications of places becoming available for full classes are great. It would be brilliant if notifications could be set up if booking has opened for a ‘favourite’ class. E.g. I like to book Rhythm for 7:05pm on a Monday evening at Southampton West. If I were to be able to add this as a favourite class, I’d like to be able to set up a notification to remind me to book it on Saturday evening at 8pm. Keep up the great work.

Unreliable and frustrating, still

Since reviewing this a few months ago, I’m sorry to report that things have gone from bad to worse. The app is almost unusable at peak times around the 8pm booking window, causing missed class bookings. Unfortunately, this is at the very heart of the David Lloyd experience and makes being a club member extremely frustrating. So many people on my tennis classes are discussing it. It needs urgent action. Much better server capacity seems an obvious step, or the fundamentals of the app need a revisit. It really is unforgivable now.

Since the recent refresh, this app has been getting worse and worse. It hangs often on blank screens or busy cog and needs to be force quit. This is especially bad at 8pm when members are trying to book the newly released classes for the following week. The app often completely collapses at this point, requiring logging in again, by which time if you weren’t quick enough, the classes are full. Also, preferences are forgotten from session to session, so having said I only want to see adult classes has to be reselected over and over.

Missing Features

The app has recently been updated, but has lost some of the features/functionality around booking classes. I have checked with a few other members and everyone has the same issue.
You are no longer able to find specific classes (e.g. BodyPump / Cyclone) - you now have to look at each and every day and scroll through all the classes to see when they are on the timetable. I believe the option “find & book a class” option used to do this, but now only shows the timetable (I.e. it’s exactly the same as selecting the “view timetable” option.
Also, there used to be an option to “star” your favourite classes, but this functionality appears to have disappeared.
