Description

Named 2018 iPhone Game of the Year by the Apple App Store team!

Donut County is a story-based physics puzzle game where you play as an ever-growing hole in the ground. Meet cute characters, steal their trash, and throw them in a hole.

WHERE TRASH IS TREASURE
Raccoons have taken over Donut County with remote-controlled trash-stealing holes. You play as BK, a hole-driving raccoon who swallows up his friends and their homes to earn idiotic prizes.

When BK falls into one of his own holes, he’s confronted by his best friend Mira and the residents of Donut County, who are all stuck 999 feet underground… and they demand answers!

THE HOLE KEEPS GROWING
• EXPLORE every character’s home, each with their own unique environment.
• MOVE the hole to swallow up their stuff, growing bigger each time.
• COMBINE objects inside for crazy effects: cook soup, breed bunnies, launch fireworks, and more.
• CATAPULT things back out of the hole. You can use it to solve puzzles...or just destroy stuff.
• DEVOUR everything. The hole won’t stop until the whole county is all gone.

Donut County was created by Ben Esposito, designer on What Remains of Edith Finch and The Unfinished Swan. It is the result of six years of solo development, dozens of donuts (for research), and one fateful encounter with a raccoon.

Original and fun

Really enjoyed the game. It is a completely original idea and is amusing and fun. However, it is slightly short and quite easy - I would like to see more puzzle levels like the final trash kingdom level. It would also be good to be able to do something with the trash found and put into the trashopedia - possibly a sandbox?

Overall I really liked the game and think it has huge potential - hope to see a sequel!

A (w)holesome game

Donut county is one of the best games on mobile right now. It’s centre mechanic is incredibly satisfying and new concepts are constantly introduced throughout the title making each level feel unique despite each having the same goal of destroying everything. The multiple scenes of dialogue sprinkled between levels are great too as a charming cast of characters reminisce about their lives prior to being devoured by the holes. The writing is especially funny in the trashopedia (a book archiving all items consumed) where each object has its own description written by the protagonist. As others have stated, the game is quite short with it taking me around 2 hours to beat all the levels though though it could obviously be shorter if you skip past the dialogue. I’d feel like a 9/10 would be more appropriate for this but that wouldn’t be possible if I wanted to review this on the App Store.

The only game I’ve played through this year!

I get bored really easily with games and always try to get into them but get too distracted too easily. This game was the total opposite! I downloaded it while watching my partner play it on the PC, and we both just stayed up to finish them. The dialogue is really fun and quirky, the storyline is genuinely funny and I loved the characters. There is a fair bit of dialogue, but I wouldn’t say too much, and it’s all funny and adds to the experience. The gameplay is really satisfying and it’s got a good amount of challenge. It only takes 2-3 hours to play the whole way through but it’s a beautiful and simple game, and well worth £3 considering the effort that’s obviously gone into it. Loved it, thank you devs!
