Support non existent during these times

I forgot to pay the congestion charge after which the car owner got charged a fine, which I’m responsible for. Fair enough. All I asked for was some kind of payment plan for the charge as I have been let go due to COVID. All that they did was take the payment anyway - £115 that could have gone towards rent and food. Rest assured I won’t be using the service again.

Renting is also a pain. Why do I need to take like 8 pictures of the car? Every other provider doesn’t ask for it and it delays my rental. Only used them because Ubeeqo and Zipcar weren’t available. What an expensive mistake.

We always do our best to accommodate payment plan requests, however, if the request comes after payment has cleared successfully we cannot apply a payment plan retrospectively, I'm sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.

As Getaround does not own any of the cars on the platform, and they are owned by private Owners we have due diligence to ensure that any damage to the car that occurs during a rental is processed by our claims team and paid for by the driver who caused the damage. The reason that we ask for 8 clear photos of the car at the start and end of the rental is so that we can be sure that we are processing damage claims on the correct rental.

False reviews and deficient cars, stay away

Yesterday I checked in a first car on Getaround to go on holiday week-end with my family (wife and 2 kids). As I checked-in, the car was dirty, many parts broken, disgusting inside (bottles of juice, dirty papers etc), strong smell of drug and there was a pipe to take drug. When I started the car it says that there was no oil.
I canceled the rent, called the customer service to explain the situation. They said they would proceed a refund but haven’t received any confirmation. I decided to rent a second car, 30 mins walk the first one. The car struggles to open and the owner came to help and we decided to hit the road with my family. After 45 mins, and in the middle Lane of the highway, the vehicle just stopped, engine shut down. We ended up spending the worst 45 mins with my family, in the middle of the highway before being towed by the police. Finally AA patrol came after 2 hours and we had to take a taxi back home and lost £460 worth of Airbnb, on top of the most stressful evening ever. The AA patrol confirmed that the battery wasn’t up to standard, was out of date and simply shut down, creating damages to the electronic system and then locking the car.

What is unbelievable is that the cars you are renting are not checked, putting people’s life at risk. The first car I checked yesterday is even still available in the app…. And bad reviews are removed from the app.

Dreadful company and app

If I could leave a zero star rating I would. First time user and the car I hired was appalling. Dirty and lots of things broken but the main one being the key was broken and it caused the engine to immobilise shortly after I drove off. Contacted Getaround and the person I spoke to was slow and useless and didn’t provide any roadside assistance. Subsequently contacted them again to complain and was offered £40 credit to my account. As I don’t plan to use them again this is unsatisfactory and they flatly refused a refund to my payment card quoting “many payments are needed to ensure the quality of our service”. Strange as I have received no such quality service. Absolute joke of a company
** Subsequently been contacted by Getaround to inform me that their customer support team are not trained mechanics and can’t offer technical support. Well duh! It’s an insult to my intelligence that I was expecting customer support to advice me to fix the car, what I was expecting was that they could get the roadside assistance out to me but after 15 minutes on the phone to one of the support team I was still giving my details. They were slow and I had to repeat everything. I ended up hanging up and phoning the AA directly.
