Ratings and Reviews
Could be good
Having recently become a member, I was really hoping the app would be a great way to discover the properties.
It isn’t. Whilst there are some nice things, they don’t work very well. The search function is awful and always turns up 0 results. When you look at a list view and click to see more details, it is ok, but then you have the tedium of it always taking you back to the start of the list again when you go back to the list. The national trust app was always a bit crap, and sadly, this one is a bit crap too. By no means a fun experience.
I opened the old app 3 days ago to check the opening times of an English Heritage property that I was visiting. I was disappointed to find that the opening time information was last updated over a year ago. This new app has of course got more recent information and is a lot nicer to use. I particularly like the Events section.
I would award 5 stars if the app also included information about the properties. A map of the grounds would be a start but why not have Augmented Reality or some GPS related extra information?
Improving ... slowly
At last this app is beginning to catch up with the excellent National Trust app on iPad ... but it is still clunky.
Key annoyances/suggestions on first use
1. view property details from Map and on return always goes back to top of list page, so you have to reselect map for the more useful view of properties nearby
2. Property details still clunky to view and lacking information about the history or other info to entice one to visit - at least there is a link to the website...but...
3. You have to click to say OK to go to website ... just do it!
4. Map view obscured by the big red 25 mile proximity ring around my home. The ring is great for showing properties in context of road access etc., but probably only needs the boundary marked. Also, can’t see any way of changing the range? Haven’t tested what happens if I move to another location
