Description

The Flower-Insect Timed Count (FIT Count) is a 10-minute survey designed to collect new data on numbers of flower-visiting insects.

FIT Counts are suitable for all, in urban or rural locations, and can be done at any time during the FIT Count season – see the quick guide
for the season in your country.

An increasing amount of evidence suggests that pollinator species diversity has declined in many parts of the world, with the strongest evidence coming from Europe and North America. Less is known about changes in pollinator abundance, and we need much more data to be able to track this. You can help by doing a FIT Count, maybe even repeating it over the season. You don’t need to identify the insects to species level, only to within broad groups e.g. bumblebees, hoverflies, butterflies & moths, wasps.

First year of PoMS F.I.T. Count app

After four years of undertaking Pollinator survey counts on in-season specific flowering plants, heathers, countryside herbs and most main flower plant groups, this application is aimed to reduce the need to print CEH Pollinator Monitoring Survey (PoMS) forms and writing instrument to take with you in the field. The app is self explanatory accurate and easy to use in the field. Upload to server is smooth when you return to a WiFi area. Smooth and simple with great graphics, tips on identifying main Pollinator groups of insects: applicable to survey criteria.

Great for wildlife lovers

Great little app for identifying insects. And do the survey - I had loads more wildlife in my garden than I realised

Purposeful fun!

I worry about the decline in insect life in my garden and have enjoyed this excuse to get up close to them. I wish I could see the choice of plants earlier in the app and some more guidance on insect types would be useful.
