I’ve been a fan of Naim since the early 1980’s one of my first set ups was a Naim pre amp and amp with a record deck and Epos speakers you thought the band you was playing in the same room as yourself unbelievable sound quality but time moves on and the way we play music from records and tapes to cd now digital I’m the proud owner of the mu so 2 and 4 mu so qb around my house they are great sounding not quite as good as my original set but not far off but for me with the new set up the biggest let down is Naim’s app and from time to time loosing the speakers one minute they are all there then they seem to disappear I’ve found myself resetting the speakers so the app finds them again the app needs work and as one person says the answer he was given was to hard wire the speakers your router surly this defeats the reason you bought the system so your able to use WiFi.Speakers are fantastic app disappointing

Like everyone else, I experienced the ‘unable to find rooms’ (failing to start up from the app when in standby mode) problem following the auto-installation of the latest update (Oct 2022). This might be an iOS integration issue but it’s jaw-dropping that it wasn’t fixed during testing. Naim’s solution (from Technical Support) was to unplug power & speakers and restart my Uniti Nova keeping the two middle buttons (play and input selector) pressed down for 5 secs while powering up again. Then to remove the app from my iPhone, power off, restart and reinstall the app from the App Store. This reset everything on the streamer to factory settings so I had to follow the onscreen instructions to totally re-register it and set up my presets and display settings from scratch on the app. This seems to have fixed the problem, although it still goes through several worrying error screens before the app eventually loads. Generally, the app is not too bad. The ‘Uniti’ style is really nice. Navigation is a bit clunky: having to load radio ‘presets’ as ‘favourites’ first, in reverse order, then reorder the presets manually in order to get ‘Radio’ and ‘Presets’ to appear in the same order. The default screen is a bit ‘busy’ but it’s easy to switch off most of the clutter in Settings. Naim needs to realise that most users want to control their system from their phone, not have to locate a clunky remote, which I’ve only used during set-up. Further integration (e.g. with Idagio) is the way to go.

Initial impressions were great. But then I don’t know whether it is for the reason I have the 1st gen Muso(s) and the newer platform is better, but this had been rollercoaster. I would say it works about 50% of the time, the range of issues is wide: ie. when I try navigating “too fast” within Tidal it freezes up and the app can not find my devices for 3-10 minutes, sometimes until I do a hard reboot on the speakers (power cut off). The latest is that it keeps switching to Bluetooth when playing internet radio. I thought it might be just it is connecting to something but it does it even when all phones or any device with Bluetooth in vicinity has Bluetooth disabled. I can straight connect via Bluetooth when this happens so the possibility of the neighbours prancing me is eliminated. Odd. No option to turn down or do anything with bass. I get it it was tuned to perfection and I just have to place the speaker where it sounds good. Problem is that people buying a Muso will often do so due to having no space for a proper hifi. I am in the same boat and I have very limited options of where these speakers can live. The bass is just all over the place and I can’t turn it down. At least a two-step bass reduction feature would be very very handy.

Almost 30 years I didn’t waste my time purchasing Naim due to their lack of a remote control ~ needless to say I went with a superior competitor that did and never looked back... and even today I’m still enjoying that brand and system! Almost 5 years ago I thought I’d give Naim a chance with their Muso offering that looked impressive. Today i feel hatred and literally despise Naim for producing such a deeply flawed and shameful offering. They can claim they are in a similar league with the Scots except in reality this is nothing but a shameful lie. Why ? The operating system mostly renders this speaker utterly useless. Worse the fact that Naim are so precious about their operating system that they will not allow 3rd party apps to control their systems.. unlike their superior Scot competitors... I feel such an imbecile for buying this junk! Do Naim really believe we will buy their so called expensive systems based on Muso?? 😂 The flaws : no Bluetooth pairing codes ~ Thus any fool can hack your overpriced Naim system because it lacks basic security measures! The Naim app is from an era of video recorders and does work with WiFi, routinely fails to store radio stations and often loses connectivity for no real reason given its designed to work on WiFi yet needs an Ethernet connection to playback FLAC files from your NAS drive. Think Naim Think British Leyland. Fact! Funny how they were taken over by a French company called Faecal recently. I cannot even begin to share my crushing disappointment with this one company and the fact I wasted my own money on it. Utter crap and a bloody disgrace. Things were like this in the 70s... British manufacturing is meant to have moved on by now...Never a Naim again!
