Gener8 - Earn From Your Data 4+

Unless you have all the privacy and anti-tracking settings turned off, your information is already being used, so why not earn from it instead of just the browsers earning and not sharing with you?
I’ve been using the Windows version since it came out, and it has only improved.
Access and speed are exactly the same as Google and most other browsers, but Gener8 is very clear on what setting you are on (Rewards or Privacy), and it’s very straightforward to swap between the two, as well as set up the permissions of what is shared.
I have now downloaded the [iOS] app, and I would imagine it will be just as straightforward and secure as the Windows version. We’ll see what comes through in terms of spamming and adverts, but I believe it will continue to be a good experience.

Good concept, flawed execution

The idea is sound: get some value from your data rather than letting all the benefits go to retailers and advertisers.

Unfortunately, Gener8 doesn’t really live up to this promise. In return for handing over your data to them, what you mostly get is a bunch of promotional offers/trials for products and subscription services (“first month free”, “50% off your first month” etc.) that you could get many other ways, often just by Googling. The few actual tangible rewards, such as gift cards, are issued in such limited quantities and at specific times of the week that very unlikely to be able to get them unless you’re on the app on the dot when they’re released, and you get lucky. The one that made me realise it really wasn’t worth it was a £10 Xbox gift card, being released later in the week. The quantity available…? Two. Yes, just two.

I’ll consider returning if they can come up with rewards actually worth my time and information. Until then, sorry Gener8 - you’re not offering enough to keep me.

Great app, rewards need tweaking.

Honestly pleasantly surprised by this app! A co worker of mine was telling me about how he had recently downloaded the app. Explaining how the rewards worked, what information is used and for what reason… obviously the small part of my brain, that is reserved for hesitation kicked in. After a few weeks my co worker and I was discussing it again and he then began to show me how he had earned rewards etc.

Then I decided to have a look myself, read reviews, personal and professional. Looked into how the information is stored and processed. And I was shocked when I discovered just how other websites where using all my information to profit. So, why shouldn’t I get my share of it too?

Admittedly, the rewards aren’t going to blow your socks off, but some have actually come in pretty handy. And the cost of the rewards is minuscule to what I had expected. My only complaint would have to be the gift card options. There are only a set amount available, so the chances of getting the one you want is very slim.

You can also use your points to ‘bid’ on items, which I actually love.

Bottom line, just get this app! It literally looks after itself and you don’t have to do a single thing. Except to log in, see how many points you’ve earned. Through literally using your phone in no other way as you usually would!!!
