getUBetter provides local digital self-management support for all common musculoskeletal injuries and conditions such as back, neck, or knee pain as well as pelvic floor health.
It is offered to patients free of change and provides content tailored by their local NHS clinical team.
The app aims to support patients in building trust in the own recovery, gaining a better understanding of when and where to seek help if necessary, and developing the confidence to manage potential future episodes.
The app is suitable for:
• People with any new, recurrent, or ongoing muscle or joint problem
• People aged over 16 or 18 depending on where you live
• People who would benefit from self-management support
• In some areas of the NHS, you might be provided getUBetter to support pelvic floor dysfunction
The app is not suitable for:
• People aged over 16 or 18 depending on where you live
• People with severe, worsening symptoms where self-management is not advised by a clinician
• People with an injury or condition that requires regular physiotherapy or medical management e.g., after surgery or an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) rupture
• People with worsening neurological symptoms (numbness, weakness, an unexplained new onset of bladder and bowel symptoms)
• People with a known diagnosis such as infection, rheumatological conditions, neurological problems, cancer, or fracture

How can I get started?
1. Your local Healthcare Provider (e.g., GP practice, Physio or Occupational Health service) will prescribe the app to you for a specific problem such as lower back pain, neck pain or knee pain (sometimes more than one)
2. You can also self-refer from your healthcare provider’s website
3. Register using the email you provided to your healthcare provider
4. Once you’ve registered, you will be automatically linked to your local region and can begin your recovery, prevention, and support journey.
“This app is brilliant, all the right messages. Will recommend to staff, patients, and friends.” Clinical Lead Physiotherapist

This is a good app with a good range of exercises. What brings it down is the very cumbersome entry into and exit out of all the exercise and video features. I realise that you need a good grounding and understanding to ensure you complete the exercises correctly and at the appropriate level but it just takes so long to view each one I lose the will. I’ve also found it somewhat glitchy. Some days it all works, others it just crashes. So good but frustrating & I agree with other comments that it feels wrong not to actually see a physiotherapist at the outset for the diagnostic stage.
Developer Response
Hi,Thank you for your feedback. Here at getUBetter, we appreciate all feedback from our users to allows us to improve our services. We have forwarded your feedback to our app development team to look into.In regards to not being able to see a physiotherapist, the purpose of the app is to provide you with the knowledge, confidence and skills to self manage. The app is designed to automatically connect you back to see a local NHS clinician (physiotherapist/doctor) when needed. Most conditions can be effectively and safely self managed without a diagnosis. Safety netting is important as discussed above. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at: contact@getubetter.comMany thanks, getUBetter Support Team
undeveloped app doesnt work
pommskie
this app doesn't function properly. it has so many functions missing. After I had filled in extensive questionnaire I didnt have time to do suggested exercises. But was looking forward to doing exercises. However when i opened app again the page with exercises had vanished. There was no navigation at all to find them or get back to them. no way of saving to a profile. I had to start all over again with the long questionnaire! I have never even done the exercises. Why is there no way of saving these exercises to your profile? So you can come back to them. This app doesn't function properly. Why are there no options to save or at least a navigation bar to a contents list and a way to by pass the questionnaire when you have already answered it. Cant get past this to the actual help! So disappointing. Who made this app? It is as if the people who made it never saw an exercise app and how people use it? No help.
Developer Response
Hi Pommskie, Thank you for your detailed feedback - we’re really sorry for the frustration this has caused. Having to seemingly repeat the questionnaire and not being able to easily find or return to exercises isn’t the experience we want for users. Your suggestions around saving exercises, clearer navigation, and picking up where you left off are really valuable, and we’ll share these with the team as we work to improve the app. If you want to contact us about the best way to use the app, please do at contact@getubetter.com. We'll be happy to help. Best wishes, Bertie gUB
Slow, cluttered and annoying
NomineUK
Repeated questions before you can get to the exercises and if you click the wrong option you find that an automatic referral has been made with no option to cancel. The page with the exercises is disorganised, with information and exercises intermingled and no obvious distinction between them in the list. Once you find suitable exercises you can’t “favourite” them in any way, you will have to navigate back to them every time. That wouldn’t be so bad, but the video pages take 3 seconds to load. And please add text versions for the videos - both advice and exercises. The advice recommends keeping a diary, a feature that took me far too long to actually find and there doesn’t seem to be any way to automatically log the exercises you do. There are more issues, but I am left wondering if anyone actually tried using this app on a daily basis before releasing it.
Developer Response
Hi Nomine UK, Thank you for your detailed feedback—we really appreciate it. We're always looking to improve, and your insights are invaluable. We understand the frustration with navigation, loading times, and the need for better organisation. A way to track exercises is a great suggestion. We'll take this on board as we continue improving accessibility and usability! Best wishes, Bertie gUB
Truly Awful
SaHeKe
I’ve only given this one star because I can’t give no stars. Just simply thinking about trying to describe how awful this app is makes me feel filled with rage and panic. All I want is a clear written list of exercises to help manage a painful condition. Instead I have to click through pages and pages of patronising and irrelevant advice and when I finally find the exercises I need it’s only in video form. No clear list of what you have to do every day, no diagrams. Nothing, so if watching videos isn’t your preferred way of learning, good luck to you. And if you have memory issues you are going to have to watch those videos over and over and over again. Oh and the button with the exercises I need does not always appear on the page, so if you click away from it, good luck finding it again. Rage.
Developer Response
Hi SaHeKe, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear how frustrating your experience has been. The app is designed to support different learning styles through guided video content, though we understand this won’t suit everyone. We hope patients who do prefer this style of help are able to get better on their own which would then free up space for those who need more assistance. We appreciate your comments around navigation, exercise visibility and the need for clearer written guidance, and we’ll share them with the team. We are currently working to improve the exercise section and provide more helpful tools to keep track and better present the content. If you want to share any further feedback with us we'd love to hear it: contact@getubetter.com. Best wishes, Bertie
