Hours Time Tracking 4+

This app does pretty much what I was looking for, but the subscription model means I'll be looking elsewhere.

You create each project / job you will work on, then when you start work, start the project timer and this is logged on your calendar. When you stop working, stop the timer.

You then get a simple breakdown of what you worked on and when. It's easy to see your weekly hours per job.

Only problem is you are limited to four or five timers and to unlock more costs £60/year, which is far too much really. This adds other features, but it's not that clear what these are. It let's you log on to the website, but I'm more sure what this does as you can't view it without subscribing.

I'd be happy to buy the app as a one off payment to add more timers.

Today I have had an update to Hours and discover that it has turned into a subscription service, I will now have to pay a substantial monthly fee to access the Pro version which is very nearly the equivalent to what I have used for the last few years for free. Not that I don’t feel that I should pay for software that someone has spent their valuable time on, but I avoid subscription type apps especially ones where the monthly fee is as much as I would be happy to pay for a one off payment! It is a question of what is the software value to me and I am afraid that this one is well short on that score. As mentioned earlier I have been using this app for some time and have clocked up 1800 events over that time but the app is so very slow, in the early days I could log a new event in under a minute, recently the same operation takes about 3 minutes, just waiting, waiting waiting, the new version in truth seems a little quicker but that’s largely due to the new layout, instead there seems to be a new set of issues, such as a long list appearing telling me there is some overlapping times or when I call up an event that has already been logged rather than just dropping it in the day’s list it will just tell me it already exists without allowing me to select it! As you can probably tell I am frustrated by this app and will be looking for an alternative without delay, maybe it will work for you if you can justify the cost.

You can still access your data and use Hours for Free, just select the version that is best for you, select "Try a Taste Before You Buy". Then login or create an account (name, email, password). You will get 3 free additional timers (beyond what you already have) and you can continue to use Hours for Free. If you choose, you then have the option to subscribe to Hours Personal (for the low introductory price for the first year) or Hours Pro. You will get unlimited timers, sync, automatic backup and simplified timer creation. Additionally, Hours Pro subscribers also get Hours web access. This app is very smart, streamlined and easy to use, but is not very reliable, especially when using with an Apple Watch. More likely than not, when installing the app on the watch, it will not work and simply give a message saying it is syncing timers from the phone (I have tried re-installing more than a dozen times and unfortunately no luck) but even when I did get past the syncing issue (on another watch) it is very unreliable. Sometimes I start a timer on my watch but it never registers in the app, also, starting timers on iPhone is not reflected on the watch. Perhaps this is deliberate for free users. My watches are both series 3 and paired with two different iPhones.
