Reading progress out of sync

It always happens to me - Books opens on the right page and then scrolls up to some moment in past.
Why it is so complicated to sync the data using the strategy of greater page number wins?

I used to use Books when it was called iBooks. Unfortunately, since the change to Books, I have steered clear of it because it only ever wants to sell you more books. Leave a book and quit the app, next time you open the app it goes front and centre to the store page and tries to sell you something else. So I switched to XODO, which is much better as it ain't trying to sell anything.

Then there is the Gamification of the app, where it badgers you to keep reading, making goals for everything. Like many things now in life, everything is about a goal, achieving something whilst never appreciating what we have. It's like waking up to count how many sunrises you can see, but failing to appreciate the event. Not my cup of tea, and immediately deleted.

A solid default app that has encouraged me to read more

Apple Books is a very solid, well-featured app that has led to me reading every day (I’m currently on a 67-day streak) thanks to the easily adjustable “Goals” system.

Also, the app accepts any books in the EPUB format, making it very easy to make use of online public domain libraries like Project Gutenberg.

The only reason I’m giving the app 4 stars is because I have experienced some crashes during the initial opening of books but they’ve never impacted my actual reading experience.
