Recent updates put this app back on top

It’s taken a while, but after their not-so-great “v2” revision, recent updates have fixed the vast majority of issues and it’s great to see this app return to form. Used it on a recent tour around Wales and Calimoto picked out consistently great routes with minimum fuss. Route planning on your phone (rather than desktop) now also more reliable. Great app!

This is one of my favourite apps (formerly an unreserved and enthusiastic 5*****) but have to say this latest revision is a step backwards. The speed camera alerts show wrong values (eg. “65” in a 30mph zone) and some of the screens now feel cluttered. I’m sure they’ll get this back on track though (here’s hoping!)

Frustrating

I signed up for the premium membership and have used for a few months. Yes the route modes are great and the main draw to the app, but key things are missing. Frustrating is how I would term this app. No live traffic data is really annoying, constantly just having to make up your own re-route when all you want is the app to know where the incidents and roadworks are. They are introducing user logged traffic & incidents but that’s useless, who would stop and add one? Also, the app is temperamental. Recently, the traffic camera alerts have gone even when I have that switched on as an option, that was one of the apps best features but doesn’t seem to work any more. Route planning is unnecessarily complicated. Plus other little niggles too, too many to mention. I began to try to like to this app but sadly it just falls too short to be the app I need. I jumped from Beeline to this as I found Beeline too simple, Calimoto could be so much better with a few improvements. I shan’t be renewing my subscription and the hunt carries on for the app that is best suited to what I need.

Poor execution and dangerous route mapping

July 22 review: UK based routing sees the algorithms incorrectly utilising ‘U’ roads for twisty or windy roads. YOU MUST STOP THIS. ‘U’ roads are single track roads, often country lanes, with very bad road surfaces, occasionally unpaved entirely, often loose gravel, high hedges and very poor visibility. Don’t be fooled by their speed limits being 60mph, it is an arbitrary speed limit, its meaningless. They are heavily used by farmers and heavy equipment. Stick to A and B roads!!!
Then there is the gps delay. Very often laggy and giving instructions AFTER a junction has been taken. The last thing a rider needs is mixed or late information.
Auto zooming in and out to give better perspective of overall journeys and approaching junctions would be helpful rather than being stuck at a low level. Again, requiring the rider to be distracted by having to manually zoom.
Has useful features but some fundemental improvements to be made to make it safer and therefore usable and recomendable, which if currently is not. Apple maps much better still
