I moved to Androud in 2013, and there was one major challenge; find a replacement for Podcasts. At the time, Podcasts with it's streaming, downloading, easy catalogue management and notifications was a near unbeatable feat it seemed, but in time I found a successor and have since continued to enjoy podcasts anywhere I go. So you can imagine my dismay upon returning to iOS to find Podcasts a poorly functioning hell and the vast majority of it's platform competitors focussed on maddening gimmicks and constrained UX. Then along came Castbox, everything I needed with a sprinkle of pretty UI and a topping of fun discoverability features. If you treat Podcasts like albums, not like live radio, Castbox is for you.

I’ve tried all the top rated podcast apps after discovering the joy of podcasts during this pandemic. Why hadn’t someone introduced me to podcasts sooner? I’ve missed so much!! Anyway, this makes organisation easy, searching for new podcasts and discovering ones I may never have thought to listen to is a cinch. There are plenty of cool features and zen mode is especially helpful during a sleepless night. The community aspect is an interesting read and I’ve found a few podcasts to add to my collection that way as well. The only problem I have is that I can’t seem to keep the app on my iPad and iPhone synced. I have to update my iPad manually by marking what I’ve already played with a swipe. Since it’s just a swipe and I don’t often use it on my iPad, it’s not a big thing, but it would be nice to figure out what the problem is. Other than that, it’s perfect!

Too many ads

Update: This app just keeps getting worse. Now, everytime I open the app, I get a fullscreen ad for a podcast Ive never heard of or have listened to anything remotely related to. The X to close it is so far in the top right its barely visable. I know you want us all to subscribe to the paid version but this is convincing me to leave the app.I used to love this app. It was my go to for podcasts but there are so many ads all of a sudden. Everytime I open the app or select a new podcast I get ads I have to wait to close. If this gets any worse Ill be leaving this app in the bin Update: ads have become even more frequent. So close to finding another app to listen to the few podcasts I listen to. Not only do I get ads as before, I now get ads in the episodes. Are you trying to drive people away? If I could give zero stars I would😡
