In principle, as a digital app it has all the constituents of a modern dating app, like Tinder. The only issue is its ability to reach a wide and diverse audience, as it pitches to a small group of users. If you picture people on the autistic spectrum as around (by guestimate) 2-4% of the population and not as known or established as Tinder, the number of participants at this stage is very small and the possibility to link/hitch up with only a few people over hundreds of miles away makes it impractical for regular dating in principle. Users should use it as a social network to “Linkin” with other autistics to make friends as well as dating, on all sides and sexes, in time perhaps it will become more diverse, well used and practical in every sense.Ed. I have a theory that the application name of “Hiki” comes from the Japanese word “hikikonori” which means ‘recluse’. What do you think? You decide :)

The reason why Im make this review is Ive encountered some profiles that in inverness I matched with a month ago in inverness I went to meet up these so called young girls these were like 22 to 24 yrs old the girls I met up with ended up being 55 to 60 yr old men who are not autistic or have any kind of disability and most of the young girls and guys on the app in their 20 to 30s give so much horrid criticism to young people even girls give girls so much horrible I feel so sorry for the people who are kind and friendly by people who only want to put down and tease and bring people into breaking point so there is another thing I want to say and that is the young guys on here are the nastiest guys Ive spoken to on here Im never ever coming back on here ever again and Im probably going to go to a proper dating app and find an app with friendlier people hope you can fix your app because it will be impossible to turn the app into a friendlier community because everyone who spoke to me showed no kindness or respect to me at all and this is the first dating app Ive ever said this on I literally regret ever coming on here I know its a harsh to say but the guys and girls that were allowed to join were the nastiest people Ive ever met Im showing no remorse for saying this review so I hope as I said you can fix this but it will probably be impossible to fix so yea screw you app bye

I have been using this app for over a month now and after a couple weeks I realised how to use it effectively and once I did, it was incredible. It was a great app linking and connecting autistic and neurodivergent people from across the world. People showing themselves as who they are genuinely, connecting over passions and interests. It wasn’t perfect but it was our Hiki and we loved it. These changes though have made Hiki a lot like hinge now but still with a feed. People can no longer like eachother without paying and even then the friends feature has been removed. The amount charged to use the premium version is extortionate especially if think about the statistics as to % of autistic people that work. In England its like 25%. By introducing this pay wall Hiki has made this app unusable to many, many autistics are alone and isolated and this app was fantastic at reducing such states of being. The changes are greedy and sickening. App creators and Hiki team be aware these changes have hurt us and so will also hurt you. As I said thousands have left and those still on it are hurt and frustrated. Also very few people will use the premium features. I don’t see why Hiki has done this because it’s hurt both of us.

While I’ve used the free version and have managed to meet neurodiverse friends to connect with (and continue to do so on the rare occasion), the app does exploit users by charging awfully high subscriptions just to be able to see who has liked a person or expressed platonic/romantic interest - much more extortionate than almost any modern dating/friendship app. I will never pay a penny for a subscription and recommend doing the same.I agree with one other reviewer here that given today’s job climate and the impact it has on neurodiverse users being able to even earn a source of substantial income from a job, not every Hiki consumer family is affluent to even potentially afford a hiki subscription. While I do give my upmost kudos and appreciation for the developers and the company behind the app’s development for its purpose, it is not reasonable to charge such high subscriptions and would implore any possible consumer to think carefully before purchasing.
