£1.99 · In-App Purchases
The easiest tool to use Agile and other smart tariffs on Octopus Energy, including detailed usage analysis, carbon integration and Agile/Tracker rate predictions.
Octopus Watch is the easiest tool to manage the (smart) tariffs provided by Octopus Energy in the UK. Octopus Watch is a paymium app for iOS offering both a standard version as a one-time purchase, and an optional subscription with additional features.
Ready to supercharge your savings?
Save significantly on your electricity bill, regardless of whether you're on Agile, Go, Cosy, Flux, Tracker, or any fixed tariffs (basic or eco 7). Thinking of joining Agile? Log into the app with just your postcode and check out local rates. If you want to see your consumption history, you'll need an Octopus Energy account and an active smart meter. Please note that support for Intelligent and Intelligent Go is currently limited, with only default off-peak times available. For the latest status on tariff support check out the wiki: https://wiki.smarthound.uk/octopus-watch/tariffs/ .
With the standard version of Octopus Watch, you'll have all the tools at your fingertips to effectively manage your tariff:
• View your current rates in an instant (including for gas trackers).
• View your current electricity rates directly on your Apply Watch!
• See all your upcoming rates in an easy chart and table.
• Instantly get the cheapest times to run appliances or charge your EV, and save big!
• Use the beautiful widget for current and upcoming prices on your home screen.
• Receive alerts when the next day's Agile rates are available.
• See your historic day-by-day usage.
• Use the new micro metrics to quickly see trends in your usage.
• See when your meter fails and how much data is missing.
• Understand how weather influences your usage.
• One tap comparison to see how your tariff compares to Agile, Go, and SVT.
• Check your earnings from export (only available with an export meter).
• Various options to change the app defaults to best suit your needs!
• Export cleaned data to CSV for easy use in other apps such as Microsoft® Excel®.
Want even more? A single subscription gets you access to these amazing features:
• Up to 48h Agile rate predictions – plan your usage effectively and save even more!
• If you have an export meter, also receive Agile export rate predictions.
• Access 7-day weather forecasts across Great Britain for even better planning.
• Instant notifications when next day's Agile prices fall below your chosen threshold.
• Identify optimal half-hour blocks throughout the day to charge your EV or run appliances.
• Carbon integration - see your environmental impact both now and in the past.
• View your electricity generation regionally or nationally, and adjusted to your usage.
• Choose the best slot based on either price or lowest carbon emissions on the grid.
• One tap comparison to see how your tariff compares to most smart tariffs.
• Advanced micro metrics over 14 or 28 days, including subscription-only metrics.
• Day details – see your exact usage along with numerous statistics on a day-by-day basis.
• Day details – see exactly which data is missing when your meter stops reporting.
• Micro-optimise your usage with half-hour details within the app.
• Generate straightforward electricity reports for any period in the last year.
• Generate detailed gas reports, including heat pump efficiency information, for the last year.
Thanks to Family Sharing you can install the app on all devices within the same family. Install it on your iPhone for an easy pocket reference, run it from your iPad to see the beautiful rate graph and double column table, or see the current rate with a flick of your wrist on your Apple Watch with dozens of complications to choose from. The choice is yours! Octopus Watch also supports subscription sharing, so one subscription gives you access to all the extras on all the iPhones and iPads in your household.
more The App is very easy to use. On the front screen you have a slider to find the best time to run an appliance by inputting the duration that the appliance will run for. This is useful for determining the best time to run something like a dishwasher. This also works for battery storage where the run period may not be continuous . IE my battery might require 10 kWh of overnight charging to get to the desired charge level for the next day. I would be looking for the best slots to achieve that. Having them highlighted is very useful for setting the timer on my inverter. This functionality would probably be useful for many people using the Agile tariff. It might be useful to have a toggle switch to identify if the period specified needs to be continuous. This has rapidly become a “go to” resource so I will be switching to the annual plan. The tariff forecast is a good indicator of what rates are forthcoming.

This is by far one of the best apps I’ve ever used and I’ve been an IT all my life? I think the depths of understanding and effort to get as much useful data and information about real energy costs and usage to help the user to understand their energy costs and the best way to use them is tremendous. The extras for subscription far from essential are still worth it. I have one small suggestion though, I’m trying to reduce my notifications across the board and as subscriber I can have notifications when the price of electricity drops below a certain threshold which is great. But I believe this toggle also turns on notifications every day of when new rates are available. for me this is just noise and I only want the threshold notifications so separating out the two would just make the app very slightly nicer as if it could be - thanks
Developer Response Sorry for the delay in getting back on this (reviews can be slow, sorry). For support or feature requests send an email straight to contact@smarthound.uk and I will often get back to you within minutes. The way you describe it is how it should work: you set the toggle for e.g. 15p, and notifications should only be sent out when rates for the next day actually drop below this rate. Do check that it is set up as such. If it is, and you are still getting a notification every day even when rates do not drop below that value, then do reach out to me!

Edit: With help from the developer, who has been in touch & very helpful since my original Review, I’m trying to resolve the issues I’ve had which appear to be Octopus Energy’s issues & not the App Developer. I have re-rated the review from two stars to five in the interests of clarity.Original Review: The app itself is good but it’s recently stopped working on the last update. The history will no longer load despite the data being visible on the Octopus Energy website. The data is being read from the meter & I can see it if I log into my account but no longer on the app. Initially I started to delete the app & re-install it & this would drag through the data & update the app but recently this has also stopped working.
Developer Response Hi, sorry to hear something is going wrong. Drop me an email at contact@smarthound.uk with your account number and API key and I can help you out. There are a myriad of things that can go wrong, but what usually happens is that something goes wrong on Octopus Energy's end when updating your account when switching tariffs. I can help you pinpoint the issue and either help you fix it or point you in the right direction for getting support to resolve the issue from Octopus Energy.

This is a brilliant app I use it daily to save myself wasting money on using electricity at the best times. Sometimes just waiting a few minutes to the next 30 minute slot can halve the cos. It’s great to have the ability to know when to charge my electric car tonight or is it cheaper tomorrow night possibly. I also have the now and next prices on my Apple Watch face for quick reference. However since the last watch update has stopped working on my older version of the Apple Watch. The developer contacted me with the solution to getting it working again in Watch series 3 😊 was also very detailed in her response to me. Finally a developer who cares about the app and genuinely wants to assist 👍👍
Developer Response Hi Pete, just updating my response as well. Thanks for getting in touch, and always feel free to reach out to me if you have issues, questions, etc at contact@smarthound.uk. For other users: there have been a number of bugs introduced in WatchOS lately. Get in touch with me if you are using an Apple Watch Series 3. If you are on a Series 4, 5, 6 or SE: (1) restart the Apple Watch, and (2) open the Octopus Watch app directly from the app screen on the Apple Watch. This should resolve the issue.

5.0.0 17/04/2024
update 4.6.1, 4.6.2:
• hotfix: the spacing of the widget was incorrect for an iOS 17 build resulting in a squashed widget
• hotfix: address a change in the Octopus Energy API to the endpoint to retrieve tariff product codes
update 4.6.0:
• new: show and explore your missing data. There's no hiding or defaults. Missing data is still clearly shown, and the app can either keep checking or you can accept the data as-is.
• fix: some Flux tariff variants were not correctly detected.
update 4.5.3:
• hotfix: the Carbon Intensity service is down (as of 22nd Oct 2023) and some of its data is corrupt. This caused app crashes, which are now fixed.
update 4.5.2:
• new: in rare cases the indicator that electricity was cheaper than gas could show up incorrectly.
update 4.5.0/4.5.1:
• new: gas reports to understand your usage.
• new: highlights in the table when electric heating is cheaper than gas heating.
• new: gas added to CSV export.
• hotfix (4.5.1): prevent table scaling to illegible font size on the iPad.
update 4.4.3:
• new: lock screen widget for iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Pro.

• fix: reduce caching on watchOS for faster updates.

• new: Apple Watch app rewritten from scratch – looks the same, works so much better;
• new: widget rewritten from scratch – yep, looks the same, works a lot better;
• fix: every (known) bug got rounded up and shown the way out.
update 4.3.3:
• hot fix: in rare cases an issue could cause the app to stall – the app would appear functioning but wouldn't update the Rates tab.

update 4.3.2:
• new: fetch export alongside import on first log in;
• new: change how temperature is displayed on the weather card – temperature over or below either horizontal barrier means higher Agile/tracker prices;

• new: improve the detection of import/export meters.
update 4.3.0:
